Another area visitor and I had discussed other Petroglyphs in the area and he had heard that this one and several others had recently sustained damage from vandals. Upon reaching this difficult to get to site, I was relieved that the damage was relatively minor. At many of the petroglyph sites the vandalism has been extensive and disheartening. There were many thunderstorms in the valley that day as monsoonal moisture made for a very gray sky. However I stayed for sunset and lucked out as the sun peeked out from beneath the otherwise overcast skies.

And on that count, thank you for revealing little or nothing of the location of this and similar places. It looks like you understand the great responsibility that comes with knowing about these sites, and how important it is to resist the temptation to offer up location information in internet forums and other such places accessible to people you do not know and trust. I think it is even good to be very circumspect regarding which personal acquaintances you share such things with.
The vandalism is a pathetic and bizarre and inexplicable fact of life when these locations become more widely known. We've all seen what low-life jerks have done to these sites that have stood unmolested for centuries. Eventually the sites will all be gone, but we can help ensure that this will be a longer rather than a shorter time.
The local Indian tribes and BLM had reached an agreement to not promote the locations of the various petroglyph sites. As a result the signage of the other sites has been removed and a one of the sites has been protected by fences. Some of the vandalism is pretty severe, some of it quite derrogotary. Indeed, its very sad.

Mike,
Very nicely done! I had visited many petroglyphs around monument valley area, it was appaling to see how many of the places were destroyed or severly damaged by chalk/spray paint or other shit.
Glad to see you found this place and photographed it. hope you took many more to share later.
Mike,
What a beautiful shot I really like your comp. It is mind blowing to me that people could come upon such an amazing site and have the desire to do senseless damage ! Thanks for sharing , Regards Dean
