Before I trash this one, curious if others can extract a good image.
Bass Harbor, Maine.
Seems like it has potential, but I havent been happy with any iteration.

EXIF:
Canon 5D Mk II
Canon 24-105L IS @ 24 mm
ISO 800, f9.5, 1/30s, -1/2EV
Handheld

Keep 'em comin'!
One part I have struggled with was the crop. It's interesting to see how each of you has handled this. I had hoped I could somehow split the image (and break that rule of thirds), offer a soft, smooth half and a colorful, detailed half.

Less is more for me...

The tendency in still shots is to try to cram as much context as possible into every photo to tell the story, hence the temptation to include the boat on the right. But I think its a very strong image with a lot of interesting colors and details to explore that works better by simply isolating the the traps from the other distractions, including just the dock in the background for context and balance but blurring it's eye catching detail.

Scott,
Crop to leave just the baskets. Then you will have an abstract.

I like Karen's version for PP, but Chuck's for the cropping.

Thanks gang for all playing, illustrating the possibilities.

I like Chuck's crop a lot.

I like Karen's oils but would like the effect dialed back and more detail a bit more.
Karen: interested in tuning it for another version to share?

James: Closest to what I envisioned, only executed better than I could.

Lyle: like Karen's version, I find yours really demonstrating nice effects, especially in the water.

Thanks!
Scott

Kewl Karen!
Is it the same pixelbender thingy being used, but different settings?

Yes. Same filter, different slider settings and different image pre-processing before Pixelbender applied.
