p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Does the 70-200L F4L IS lens have a "hitch" in the focusing?

Trying to figure out if there is a problem or if this is normal. In the close range of the focusing ring with IS set to 1 and autofocus on, when attempting to fine tune the focus (focusing ring) there seems to be a hitch. It almost feels like the glass is doing a shift.

Is that normal for this lens?

Are you maybe referring to the way the IS motor is stopping? I have almost always felt some vibration from that.

Not sure but it seems to only be happening at the close end of the range when zoomed to 200.

If IS is off, there is no hitch. My other IS lens does not behave like this but maybe it's due to the lens arrangement?

Just re-checked with my 24-105 F4L IS with IS *ON* and there's no hitch.

it's definitely not simply the IS spinning down and turning off i take it?

anyway if not, that sounds odd

Just checked my 70-200 f4 IS copy, both with IS on and off, I don't feel anything like that.

I've never felt anything like that with mine either. If its in warranty, get it serviced. It may be a sign of something failing, so its usually better to get a repair done sooner rather than later.
