I am on a shoot in Costa Rica and need this solved today...

For some reason I can not open the D7000 NEF files in Lightroom 2.0 or Capture NX2. What's the story here?

Thanks,

Jamie

Just guessing, you may need to update both programs as they might not have the current data to open those files.

That's what I was thinking. We're off to the boat now for another UW shoot so I'll have to do that this afternoon.

Any other ideas?

Thanks!

maybe try and save the files to a folder on the hard drive first (rag and drop from card to folder) then open LR or Capture and import from hard drive

I think you need LR3

Google found some decent content...
https://www.google.com/search?q=D7000+nef+lr2&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a

Looks like the best solution is in this thread:

Download the free Adobe NEF-to-DNG converter. Convert to .dng and open that.

I had to update my Capture NX2 to version 2.2.8 (please double-check, I am at work now so can't confirm) before it would let me open the D7000 NEF files. LR may have to be updated too, but I don't have much experience with LR.

Herb considering that you have absolutely no idea of the timing of the delivery of my D7000 and underwater housing I think you should keep your comments to yourself.

A quick google search for "lightroom 2 d7000" would have revealed the incompatibility before delivery or even purchase. Hopefully the situation doesn't result in any lost images, but I think the point of the comments is just that it's always a good idea to take some steps to minimize any issues, especially when away from home base, double especially if you're not going to be able to run the workflow through its paces yourself.

Windows also has an update for Raw support as well so you can at least view them.

But yeah, like everyone else says, the programs need updating each new camera release.

Thanks for all the helpful advice. Updated to LR3 and C NX2 latest version and all is well. I appreciate the helpful comments even the thoughtless ones...

FYI- when I bought my D7k, I was forced into upgrading from CS4 to CS5.5 if I wanted to edit RAW files (NEF). No other way around it.

Of course, if you only use LR, that's irrelevant to you.

Herbs thoughts weren't thoughtless. Obviously you must have gotten the camera at the last minute, but even so, to shoot a few frames and to check them out at home before hand is simply prudent and smart.

So perhaps this can be a lesson to others, to be sure and do at least a quick dry run test of equipment before going off on a shoot with it. You were fortunate that simply an upgrade to LR and NX2 solved your issue. What if there was a physical defect that the camera couldn't write to the card properly.

I have seen lot's of rude comments in here from time to time, and I don't know Herb at all, but I know he wasn't overly rude. But I do think you snapped back at him in your previous comment...
