I thought we'd go back to the very beginnings of our DSLR journey, just when we got our first digital SLR camera and started to test it and experiment with it.
Let us see some of your shots from that early period, however simple they might appear when compared to your current standards.

I had gone directly from my infrequently used A-1 and a couple of FD lenses to 300D as soon as it was introduced, i.e., I never owned any EOS film cameras. At that time I also bought my first EF telephoto lens: 70-300 f/4-5.6 USM.

Here are two shots from that period......300D + 70-300 f/4-5.6 USM.

The first Digital camera I owned was a 1D. I got it in December of 2003 and took it to the zoo to test out. Prior to that I used an AE-1 and AT-1 and 8 FD lenses I still have.

These shots were taken on 12-21-2003 using a 100-400.

OK I'll play.
My first DSLR was not Canon (sorry I didnt see the light earlier ) , it was the Pentax IstD . I had a pentax film body (Z10) which I had a couple of lenses for, I had stopped using it quite some time ago and had been thru a few Digital compacts and had an SLR like Minolta Bridge cam.

So I spent a small fortune on a 'proper' camera . just think now you can get a 7D (or very close) for what that pentax cost me!!!

And then not knowing much I went out a bought a Sigma 170-500 . not my best purchase ever . I probably only got a handful of keepers from it . No stabilization (not even in body IS!!) at an effective 750mm was never going to yeild many keepers

Peter thanks for starting this thread. It made me look back thru My LR cat and realise how much I used to just Play with the camera and shoot the kids and stuff rather than think about getting things right. maybe its the rose tints of the past but I think it was more fun

Great idea,Peter.

I purchased my first DSLR in autumn 2002 (corrected, the picture below was done November 25th 2002, not 2003) after I did a test of it in the shop end of summer and saw that its resolution (6MP) for 20x30 cm prints does not give me any longer any disatvantage compared to film. It was a EOS D60 with grip. It was a gift from my mother :-).

Back home and everything attached and my 50mm 1.8 mounted (I was shooting with EOS 5 before) I wanted to test it and just called a nice friend, to do some shots. Afternoon was late and it already gots dork in my flat so after an hour I dexcided to stop. I did some final nude pictures with ISO 800 (maximum) at about 1/10th second. Of course I did not hold any of those - except the last one:

Because itīs a nude pic I only post the link here (thank you for the advive, 15Bit).

From that point on I was in love with my camera and digital shooting

Ralph - there are some policies with respect to nudes on the forum. You need to abide by them so that folks don't get into trouble viewing from work:

---------
Be aware of content. Any photographs considered lewd, vulgar, sexually orientated, or pornographic in nature will be immediately deleted. Please only post decent, tasteful, artistic photographs. You may only post a link to your artistic nude image and not embed it into your message. If you do embed the image to this site the moderator will remove it without warning

My first DSLR was a 7D purchased in January 2011 - so I don't think I can make the sort of contribution you're looking for. :-)

I only bought my first DSLR two years ago (a 500D), and it was probably a good few months before I came anywhere near to having a clue what I was doing

I so wish I had bought a 350D when they first came out, I was so close to doing so but build a custom PC instead! I missed the first year of my daughters life, using only a phone camera... (I did have a Panny FZ30 bridge camera but it wasn't used a lot).

All with the kit lens or the Tamron 70-300 I believe. EDIT: (sorry for the big pics, now changed! I forgot that I used to upload the full res images!) The first two shots are actually with the 50mm f1.8 II, the last two with the Tamron 70-300 f4-5.6.

A fun thread here.
My first DSLR I got in spring '2006 was called 7D... but not the Canon one. The pics are mostly too awful to show (not that this has changed much, mind you) but I'll try to scavenge some from my archive. Tomorrow, m'kay?

The first Canon DSLR I had was a 30D, 4 1/2 years ago. It sometimes angered me to death with its constant failures so 2 years ago I got rid of it in favour of a 1D Mark II N that I have now.

Uhhh, my first DSLR was a Nikon D80, which I got in 2008. I made a quick jump to Canon after the HD-DSLR explosion.

Anyway, here is my favorite shot from the first outing with the camera. D80+18-135 kit lens.

This is my first digital picture (test shot of bedroom), with D60 and 17-35L lens, July 10, 2002. I was hooked!

I started out in digital photography with a 10D in 2003. I had not done anything with photos for years after doing some astrophotography in the mid 80's with an OM1n. I just disliked the whole chemical processing behind it all. I saw the 10D and said that was worth taking a chance on to regain my interest. Turned out to be a great decision on my part. My wallet has hated me ever since.

Here are a couple photos I took with it. The moon shot with a 400 f5.6 and 1.4x TC and the bumble bee with the 100 f2.8 Macro.

One of my first shots with a 300D + kit lens. It also turns out to be one of my favourites :-)

My first DSLR was a 1D. I got it just before a trip to New York. This is shot at ISO 1600 (no post processing):
