Hopefully you can send it back.

Indeed.

I'm getting a bit tired of this kind of thing and I think I'll reserve my buying to items I can actually inspect first, or from reputable businesses where I can return the item if unsatisfied (which was not the case with the above item, so I am having some trouble).

You could post the seller's name here so people can watch out. Damned!

Not real alt, since it's a native lens for the format, but it's not CaNikon.

My new Olympus 12mm f/2. Unfortunately, it has an off-axis element, and so acts sort of like a tilt-shift lens, with a wedge of focus from left to right (closer on the left, further on the right). While this makes flat field shooting nearly impossible until you stop down to about f/11, it can help in certain situations, or be of no consequence in a shot like the one below. I have a replacement coming that should be here Wednesday. I can tell by how it performs in the focused areas, though, that this will be a cracking good lens when it's not broken.

And, get this: an autofocus prime lens by an OEM that has actual engraved markings on a metal lens barrel and a focus scale! Imagine that!

Here's a recent Alt purchase. The fungus was free, and not described.

Fungus is always such a HUGE disapointment. I've received 2 lenses with fungus out of maybe 50 bought. No problem sending them back though, so I've been lucky so far.

One case was a Contax 35-70 from a german camera store through ebay. After I sent it back they put it right back up for sale on ebay with no change to the description.

I received my Contax 100-300 today, and it really is in mint condition, and no fungus . Going to try it out tomorrow. Anyone have experience with it?

that is pretty sweet. i'm very disappointed that they marred something so great by not allowing continuous manual focus when you use the distance scale though.

I don't know what's worse. Getting a lens with fungus still in it or one where you can see it has been cleaned, because the fungus has etched itself into the glass.

I sometimes wonder how many of the cheaper lenses, russian glass, enlarging lenses, even many large format lenses, have been opened, and othewise tampered with by hacks who don't know what they're doing. The last 2 lenses I bought on Ebay where such lenses, and that doesn't include the one I posted pics of either.

Oh dear, I just logged on to ebay and saw this lens suggested to me... It looked so good, and got 1 year warranty / 2 weeks return policy AND a reasonable price, I couldn't resist. This is the fastest purchase on ebay I have made yet!
CY Zeiss 100-300 on ebay
Can't wait! Even I don't have a camera here now, but I can hold it in my own hands...

I have been lucky, so far.
I have only had two total disappointments w/ eBay lens items.
And both were very low monetary amounts.
Luckily, all my high dollar eBay purchases have been very rewarding.

Good find, the Contax 100-300 is becoming popular... got mine yesterday.

Also ordered a Kipon Tilt Adapter for my Contax lenses.

Are you going to use them on a Nex then?
I have looked at the Mirex adapters, and it would be possible to mount the M42 / M645 version onto a Nex and then use 135 format lenses. See here --> http://www.pbase.com/pganzel/image/127761405
I'm currently discussing with them, it seems they might be able to provide the adapter with the necessary intermediate adapters (shortened Nex/M42 and M645/Eos adapter).
If they don't have the resources I'll do a hack job with cheap ebay adapters.

I hope this should make a great compact travel kit: 5D to use the Contax lenses to their designed full potential and then repurpose them for T/S architecture / landscape / product applications on the Nex.

What do you mean exactly? Do you mean allowing AF with MF override with the distance scale? That'd be nice, but I like that you can MF with the ring forward either as manual override of the autofocus or if the camera body is set to MF, while pulling the ring back immediately turns the lens to MF. It's a really nice implementation, actually...like having a USM lens and a Tokina clutch manual focus at the same time.

This lens allowed me to complete the micro 4/3 "trinity." (pic with my iPhone)

I've been looking for an eternity for this lens, now it feels so good! I've got the 80-200, which is nice, but reportedly this lens is even nicer

Hmm maybe someone is finally getting the message?!?

It's good news either way!

Maybe next we'll see metal & leather camera bodies?

One can hope!

Yeah, Olympus is making real photographic gems as of late. The E-M5 looks fantastic...a great blend of retro mechanical solidity and modern features. Their newest lenses all look (and perform) great...from the 12/2 and 45/1.8 to the new 75/1.8 (which looks to be the same build style as the 12/2) and the 60/2.8 Macro. Maybe we'll see a 150/2.8 prime next!

sorry didn't see your reply until just now. no, what i mean is the when the distance scale is exposed turning the focus ring does not give continuous manual focus. the focus distance jumps from one set distance to the next without allowing you to focus in between them. manual focus is more precise when the distance scale is not exposed.

a description of how it works can be found here:
