Whoa!

My ring is so stiff the lens unscrew itself from the mount when turning one direction...
I guess it gets stiff from not being used.

sounds about right, mine must not have been used for a few decades (do the first 2 numbers from the serial indicate the year on these lenses?). i managed to get the front ring to the f/16 position after i clamped the optical assembly, so now i have the full aperture range using the quick ring.

I got some new alt glass! Yay! Not sure if I can modify them though. Komine made Vivitar 135/2.8 and a Canon 50/1.8. Both in FD mount.

Today's homework will be seeing if I can dig up some info regarding the modification of either of these to fit EF mount. If not, no money lost since I paid $0 for them!

If you have the Vivitar 135 f/2.8 "close focusing" version.....it's a superb lens and well worth converting.

To the best of my knowledge, it isn't. Other than being able to confirm it's a Komine via the serial number, how can I tell if it's the close focusing version?

**EDIT**
Nevermind. I confirmed it is not the CF version. Which is too bad. I really like the construction of this lens.

Or rather than adapting... you could always just hold onto the lenses in case you switch cameras someday. For example the NEX cameras that sony has released are supposed to have great IQ and are relatively inexpensive. Also they will adapt FD lenses with no issue.

Just picked up a like-new Canon FD 35/2.8 SSC tilt shift lens and had it converted to EOS by Jim Buchanan...looking to take it for a longer spin today. Initial test pics are very encouraging with sharpness and colors...

That's a thought as well. Regardless, I've pretty much decided to hang on to this AE-1 and the 135/2.8 "just in case" I take up film or get a m4/3 in the future. But the 50/1.8...I'm making plans for that.

Very cool. An FD lens like this I would consider converting. Wonder of the EdMika adapters would work on this lens as opposed to doing a permanent conversion.

The "thing" on the left...

Flexaret vs. Bessa III by Martin Hertsius, on Flickr

It's a czechoslovakian copy/variant of a Rolleiflex from the 50:ies. The mirror is in very poor condition with only the center part still reflecting light properly, but I think it'll do for focusing. I just loaded it with Tmax 400 and will try to shoot them 12 frames tomorrow.

Bif, I took some pics during my last 44-2 CLA, I'll post a quick write up,
super easy to do.
And yes the preset ring is right, but the aperture ring is backwards on the Helios.

Are these really rare or you got a great price? Sorry for my lack of knowledge about these.

The Standard 0.75mm EF-FD EdMika glassless brass adapter would not give the FD mount TS 35mm 2.8 SSC tilt shift lens enough focusing distance to be useful beyond macro distances. However we are 6 weeks from releasing a reversible conversion kit of this lens to EF along the same lines as our FL 55 1.2 conversion kit. This brass material kit is going to be slick, retaining all functions of the original lens including the base rotation feature. I love the little metal tilt shift lens, so much so that I just sold my TS-E 24mm 3.5 L II for lack of use. -Ed Mika
