i dont have the OM 28/2,8.
i only tested it against the 24-85 N Zeiss.
and to my surprise the yashica is blown away.
sharpness is only little better.
but colors ... the yashica is nearly a B/W lens.

Got today an EL Nikkor 50mm f/2.8 enlarging lens - intended for macro/micro photography. But it has fungus inside - dcontrary to the auction text.
Lets see if I could lower the price an try to clean it.

I'm waiting for chemistry
Add to that the pace of large format and I've only really shot about 40 images with it. I am planning to process each box of film as I finish it to avoid any confusion. I think I have a box of Provia 100F I've just about finished, maybe Velvia 50 as well. The problem is I am STILL waiting for the Australian importer for Tetenal to get some E6 chemistry. I've been e-mailing back & forth with AG Photographic in the UK about getting a couple of the Fuji Hunt E6 kits, even with high postage costs it's cheaper than buying chemistry in Australia ...Show more →
How about sending some of the sheets off for developing in the meantime? Or is it as expensive as I think?
I want to try some E6 at home too, but I think I'll have to make some sort of device for keeping the temperature more stable first.

Hi,
After seeing the 21st century models,I thought I would share some photos of some of my old folders, in this case, Voigtlanders...
The first is a 6cm x 6cm Bessa Perkeo II, the second is (I believe...) one of the very first models of the Bessa line, in 6cm x 9cm format.
Voigtlander has a very rich history of style and function...

That 6x6 thing looks tiny, if I compare the opening for the film frame on the back to the modern Bessa III. Only scale focus though, right?

Scale focus, but it is 6cm x 6cm, for a total of 12 exposures per roll of 120 size film. I also have a Zeiss folder (Ikonta Series) that is 6cm x 12cm, and Zeiss Contessa 35mm folder being shipped to me this week.

Really?
I don't have the 24-85 N Zeiss nor the ML 28/2.8 but I think this might be a case of sample variation cuz my Yashica ML 24/2.8 is by FAR the best 24mm I own. It's supremely sharp! It blows away my OM 28's and 24's It kicks butt on pretty much everything I've put it up against from 21mm ~ 35mm. It's not overly colorful but its not under colored either. It's a very reality-based render. Very accurate! When I compare the shots it takes with the actual live scenes it's pretty damn close. Hehe, it's like, calibrated to my world maybe.
I'm thinking it might be sample variation because I've done quite a lot of reading on the ML 24mm and others say about the same things. APS shooters seem to consistently say that it's sharp out to their corners and FF shooters say only the extreme corners suffer any noticeable softness - and, it seems to be a universal opinion that the ML 28mm/2.8 is even better. You're not the 1st person I read to not think much of the 28 but reports like this are the exception and kinda rare.
I like my ML 24/2.8 so much it has become my first choice for shooting portraits of the lenses I put on the web for sale. So I guess that's kinda like putting my money where my mouth is. I've had two ML 24/2.8s and one Yashica DSB 24mm 2.8. The DSB 24 and 28 were very average though.
So anyway, your comments kinda make me wonder if it's not just a case of sample variation - which IME is rare but does happen.

Helios 40 - shipped but not arrived yet - should be in good condition
Vivitar Series 1 70-210mm / 3.5 - bought defective, zoom nearly frozen and oiled :-/ If not easily fixable I will not invest much time - only a cheap zoom lens.
Nikon EL Nikkor 50mm/2.8 - has fungus inside, Ebay seller didnīt accept. Probably I use Paypal for giving it back / Price reduction

Finally, pictures of the soligor 135 2.8.
I think its about the size of the canon kit lens, which is quite amazing considering that the lens is 135mm. I also am amazed at the size of the front element. At just 2.8, it has a larger front element than my 50 1.8. Now that is strange.
Not strange at all!
135/2.8 = 48,2 mm
50/1.8 = 27.7 mm
Those are the entrance pupil diameters of the lenses. The aperture size is not the same for all lenses at the same f-number, since it's depending on focal length.
For wide angles, the front lens will also be a lot larger than the entrance pupil, while tele lenses will have approximately the same width of the front element as the entrance pupil due to narrow angle of view.

Not really surprising. There's a reason why the ML 24/2.8 goes for $3-400 and the ML 28/2.8 goes for <$100 and not all of that is simply supply. I've owned the ML 28/2.8 as well and found it wanting. It's just another cheapo 28. I'm actually kinda surprised that people are saying it's a good performer, as I've only run across a couple people who've liked it and nobody who said they found it excellent

I doubt ML 24's go for $3-400, and if they do then there's no way they are worth that. I've had 2 over a long period of time and found them to perform pretty much identically. I've never found them to be particularly sharp, except stopped down of course where they are fine. If Bifurcator's copy is an exceptional one then that's, well, exceptional. I doubt very much that many ML 24's could ever be considered to be one of the best 24's ever made. They are just an OK lens IMHO and pretty similar to most other ML's. My last one cost my about $185, IIRC, with no special effort to get it either.
p.34 #18 · What is your most recent (alt) lens purchase?
My mint copy 24 ML was $150 three years back and I considered myself lucky given the prevailing rate of $200 ($400 should score a 21 ML). Some Yashica lenses are distinctly different from CZ lenses of the same FL: versus the Distagons 25 and 28, the 24 ML has no obvious linear distortion. That features comes in handy, and I can forgive the image going to pot in the corners. Plus, I love the size and ergos.
