I was doing well on my self-imposed lens moratorium, but the glut of lower-priced APO-Summicron-M 75's on the used market tested that resolve. The availability of a like-new local copy snapped it completely.

So, next year, if you see me whining on the boards about not having the funds for a Fuji GFX, please point me to this post and tell me, "You have no one to blame but yourself, you spoiled man-child."

Thanks for the giggles.

Nice! I would be interested in seeing some pics from that lens. I wonder how it compares to the Minolta MC Rokkor-HH 35mm f/1.8 performance wise? I know the Pentax is quite a bit smaller...

I don't expect it to be better than the Minolta MC Rokkor-HH 35mm f/1.8 but I will do some comparison shots as soon as it arrives...

For what it's worth, I tested the Nikon 105 against the Contax G 90 a while back. In fairness I do not remember exactly which Nikon variant I shot. In regards to color and contrast, the Nikon held up very well actually. I was pleasantly surprised. However the sharpness was better on the Contax at every aperture, all across the frame. At $40 the Nikon is a good value, but already having the Contax it won't be a keeper.

Almost picked up a Nikon 105mm f/2.5 AI'd for a $40, but held off for now. They listed it as having "separation," but I'm not seeing it, just the usual dust. If it's still there, I might grab it when I'm back down in the Cities for Christmas. Been wanting to try one of those for a while, even though I suspect I'll still want to stick with my Contax G 90mm f/2.8.

Just purchased a Sony 85mm 2.8 for $110. Going to replace my Contax 90mm with it, since I sold my G1 earlier in the year. Looking forward to the minimum focus distance of 0.6m as well!

Not that the Sony 85mm is a bad lens. But why replace the Contax G 90 with it?

I recently bought a Zeiss 50mm ZF f1.4 lens.
Though it is not as sharp as my CY Zeiss Planr copy I had when shot wide open, it's flare resistance is much better controlled on the ZF version.

I love the bokeh it creates and it's rendering is something I very keen to.

I just got a MS Apoqualia-G 28/f2. It's going to sit on a leica mm for the year. I wanted something small and full of character because I just don't have time to use my big cameras and I got annoyed chasing incremental improvements.

So far on my a7r it's cool, sharp in the center a fair bit of fc, but it's really fun to use.

Got a great deal on a Leica 50 2.5 summarit. I fell in love with the Leica 50 f2 summicron-R E55 and its classic rendering. I had been wanting a touch of the modern Leica rendering, and heard that the summarit was a nice balance between old and new. Really looking forward to trying it out. It is such a tiny lens, I think it will be fantastic for travel and lightweight wilderness excursions.

I'm sure there must be a service guide online somewhere. RFForum?
It's a crime to hack a working camera just to use it's lens, I looked for an as-is Rollei XF 35 to adapt, the focus mechanism was broken, so it was likely to never make pictures ever again.
I PM'd you 2 links for as-is YASHICA 35GX's

PhotoMaximum: Looks nice, hope you're happy with it.

Is that the GSN? I have two of those. I purchased one on eBay years ago but the seller also sent a second one that does not work. I might try removing the lens to see what happens...

I don't have a Contax body to shoot it on (but have an a850, a7r and LA-EA3, and Maxxum 7), the minimum focus distance is really a burden, and manually focusing the lens on my a7r is a pain. The Sony is almost the same optically though probably has worse flare resistance, but there's a lot of positives to the Sony and I could definitely make a profit in the switch as well. Probably should compare them first to see how they differ in sharpness

Is this an electro? I had one with bad shutter and it cost $5 so it got hacked up. Comes off easy, milled down a l39 adapter. I can get it fitted but no infinity and no way to reliable shorten it.

Edit: looks like it has a slightly different mount than mine which was actually the 45/1.7 but still highly unlikely to reassemble. There should be a bunch of wires running into the lens for aperture info and a few other things if I recall. I guess you could de-solder them all and try to pull them through... And again if it's similar you have to open the leaf shutter. I'm afraid it's a one way road.

I just purchased a Sinar Sinaron 150mm f5.6 Digital lens in a Copal 0 shutter. It is coming from Seoul, South Korea, so I am not sure when it will arrive. It is the same design as the Rodenstock 150mm f5.6 Apo-Sironar Digital (it is the same lens with the Sinar Badge as confirmed by Rodenstock in Germany) lens in a Copal 0 shutter. The lens is to add to my Sony A7r and Cambo Actus system. The lens will replace my Rodenstock 150mm f5.6 Apo Sironar S lens which I will sell to help to pay for the lens.

I was able to finally test my Rodenstock 150mm f5.6 Apo Sironar S on my A7r with my Cambo Actimaus and the lens is quite sharp even on my A7r. I tried to test the lens the cheap way by getting the inexpensive Sony E mount extension tubes from China. Unfortunately when using 2 pair of these units I got a lot of glare/flare from the lens with this combination on my Cambo Actus. So I flocked one of the pair of Extension tubes. These have the 35mm rectangular cut out and unfortuanely even though I was able to redue or elimate the flare, with the flocking in place I am seeing vignetting in the corners of the image. So, I went back to just the standard bellows and as I expected there is insufficient bellows draw to focus the lens. So I rotated the front of the camera 180 degrees and reinserted the lens standard and found I had enough bellows to focus the lens from about 10 feet to infinity. But, I will have little or no ability to use tilt/shift, swings, and rise and fall of the camera with the lens.

I could have kept my Rodenstock 150mm Apo Sironar S but it has the older 5 Iris Blade Copal 1 shutter. I could purchase a newer 150mm lens with the 7 Iris blade Copal Shutter (like a Rodenstock 150mm Apo Sironar N) which would have the right scales and swapped the optical elements, but that would have cost about $300. So, I decided to use that money toward the newer Digital version of the lens.

If I can not get sufficient movements with the standard bellows with the Sinar 150mm Digital lens, I will purchase the Cambo Actus long Bellows in the future when I can better afford it.

If anyone is interested in my Rodenstock 150mm f5.6 Apo-Sironar S, let me know. It is in outstanding condition (probably mint) and this is one of the finest large format film lenses ever designed to cover 4" X 5" film.

If it's still there for $40, I'll give it a try. The additional size and weight is a downer, but not that bad - but a lot bigger and heavier than the tiny Contax G 90mm f/2.8. The G 90 is so sharp that I wouldn't mind giving up a little sharpness if it bought me something in exchange. The strength of the G 90 makes considering a different 85-100mm lens kind of silly for me - as a general purpose lens, it's already so great.

I just borrowed a g90. Great size and landscape lens, way too contrasty and sharp for a people lens I think, so horses for courses.

The Sony 85 2.8 is very underrated. You will see some purple fringing, but in terms of sharpness and across the frame at 2.8, it does not disappoint. And the MFD is killer. It weighs under 200g too--I love mine. Got it for $125-ish. Great lens--lovely bokeh. I just use a cheap dummy adapter and control f-stop manually by watching my shutter speed. I remember when I got my ZA 85 1.4 on the a900 it wasn't appreciably (or even noticeably) sharper than my 85 SAM when both stopped at even apertures. Of course, coatings and contrast were different-I prefer t* over Sony's but the 85 SAM is a great lens.

I love it for people, but I can see how it could be too sharp for a proper portrait, with good lighting and half-body and closer. I use it a lot for concerts (usually bad lighting), landscapes, and full-body environmental portrait type images. No issues with the lens being too sharp, at least for me.

This isn't my job, I'm not trying to flatter the client. Textures are a big thing for me visually, and I like to capture (and just see) that.

My Pentax 77mm f/1.8 makes a good stand-in for when I want something with a bit less bite. Similar to the G 90 in terms of contrast, but certainly less sharp than the G 90, especially at f/1.8-2.8. I'd love to try a Jupiter-9, though for something more dreamy.

Here's an example - as you say, horses for courses, but I don't worry about having a lens be too sharp for an image like this.
