p.229 #1 · What is your most recent (alt) lens purchase?

-Zeiss Jena Triotar 135/4 m42,silver,15 blades,preset aperture - my first triplet,interesting,unusual IQ
-Helios M44-2,58/2.0,8 blades,preset aperture,swirly biotar boke
-Helios M44,58/2.0,8 blades,AM-FM lever, swirly boke, less dreamy than the one above
-Vega 90/2.8 with Pentacon Six mount,preset aperture - sharp,neutral colours,nice 0,6m close focus with the A7/R/NEXes
- Volna 9 MC 50/2.8 Macro,4/3 Tessar optically,preset aperture,1:2RR - very "organic" look - sentimental come back after 26 years
- OM Zuiko MC 85/2.0 - better performance than single coated E.Zuiko and a tad worse than the latest "Japan" between f2.0 and f4.0.
-Another nFD Canon 200/4
- Mint Industar 50/3.5 m42
- Mir 1B 37/2.8 m42 - farthest corners are sharp wo on the A7R - very unusual for such a vintage lens.

Waiting on my shelft:
- Tair 3,300/4.5,all black "Grand Prix Bruxelles 1958"version,15 blades,manual focusing by the ring,3m mfd,m42
-Jupiter 11,135/4,L39,silver,tiny - but the mfd is....2.5m!
- Leitz Elmar 90/4,M39 - would it be my first m39?

Sadly,I had to send back one "plain" Minolta MD 85/2.0,because it was fungus infested.Otherwise I would have all regular models of 85mm Minolta MD lenses produced.

Lucky you! (And a good move from Zeiss)

Looking forward to seeing your results with the two 50´s. And the 21 and 35, but those lenses I am already familiar with.

Those Milvus lenses were originally loaned to Helge from 3d-kraft.com but since they coincided with his holiday he was kind enough to send them on to me, he gets some images from me for that. the Loxia is the first lens I have on loan from Zeiss directly.

i will focus on both 50's and especially the 1.4/50 since it is the only really new lens. The lenses certainly feel very solid and I had imagined them to be bigger than they really are

That is quiet a list Peire, I have a some of them. A pitty of that Minolta 80/2. It is one of my favourite Minolta lenses.

I really would like to know what you think of the P6 Vega lens. I have a P6 Adapter for my Pentax Z and was thinking about this lens to try for fun. But fun costs money

This is an excellent lens on the A7/R.Sharp wide open across the frame,no visible LoCa/Ca,good contrast ,nice organic colours and smooth bokeh.Image is even better stopped down 1-2f stops. The only weakness is poor flare resistance caused by old single coating.AFAIK this is a Biometar 80/2.8 copy. Not too big for the A7 series with all necessary adapters mounted.

I got mine for 10 euro on the flea market, but I also see it available on ebay for 40-50 Euro.It is a bargain.Probably the cheapest 80-90/2., 6x6cm lens with excellent IQ and short mfd of only 60cm.Presumably,it's performance with Pentax Z will also be decent.

I have two copies of Minolta MD Rokkor 85/2.0 plus Rokkors: MC PF 85/1.7,MC 85/1.7 and MD 85/1.7,that I love, but the plain MD is still missing.

Thank you Peire. Very useful info.

I will be on the look out for one (cheap). If you see another one on the fleamarket in Poland, think of me

Not a new purchase but first time I've used it in a long while so feels like a new lens. This is actually surprising because I absolutely love the Cosina 55/1.2 !

These few shots are in 'normal mode'. Meaning daytime and not wide open as opposed to taken at night to totally obliterate the BG and do real funky things to specular highlights / lights

I was very happy to wake up late this morning and discover my max bid for a Schneider APO-Componon 90/4.5 HM enlarger stood up against a couple of last second sniper bids. Assuming it works out, it both completes my Schneider trio for the Actus (SA 47, the 90, and an APO-Digitar 120 I received for my birthday) and should be the perfect head for my frankenlens T/S solution.

A Contax N Vario-Sonnar 24-85/3.5-4.5 showed up today concurrently with a cheap Chinese FD 80-200 tripod collar. A little work on the collar and my new walk around lens is tripod enabled and ready to go.

It lags the VS 35-70 at 35mm wide open by a little, is closer at 70mm, and is indistinguishable at f/8 at any focal length. All based on quick tests in the mist today, though. It easily bests the FD 28-85 and 35-105. Distortion is nicely corrected. All in all, probably a serious keeper and replacement for the 35-70. The Kipon adapter allows auto aperture and IBIS coupling, a nice bonus. Focusing is a little touchy, it doesn't 'snap' into focus like the older VS does.

Courier has just delivered the beautiful copy of black, fat, boxed, non MC Jupiter 9,85/2.0,m42 from 1973 with the receipt and paperwork."This is what tiggers like most"!

And Helios 85/2.0 44-2 from 1974,added up as a bonus. All that within 18 hours from purchase.Nice suprize for someone staying at home with nasty cold.

The Jup 9 seems to be a very good copy.Soft,or sharp or swirly when appropriate. The Helios has also more interesting oof rendition compared to 10 years younger clone I already have.

I decided to come back to Mamiya 645 lenses, but this time on digital mirrorles, not film.My first purchase - a humble 150/3.5 Sekor N.

Rummaging among the rubbish in my friend's photographic store's basement I tried out by chance Tamron 28-105/4-5.6 IF with Nikon AF-D mount and manual aperture ring.To my astonishment it showed very good overall performance throughout the zoom range wide open and excellent stopped down 1f stop. That was on the A7R.So if anyone wants to get cheap, lightweight walkaround for the A7 series, this may be the way to go.The same applies to old Tokina RMC 80-200/4.5.Both were taken home.

I just picked up an old Rapid Rectilinear lens for my Toyo 4x5 camera. It's about 152mm and somewhere around f/6.3

Having someone whip up a lens board made of wood this week so I can pop it on and give it some tests.

I love this thing, and I was pretty happy with what I paid for it. I don't see old brass lenses for 4x5 very often in my parts - usually they are all 8x10 and up. I've been looking for a little guy like this for a long time.

Today the Nikkor 85/2.0 AIS was tested and accepted to join the hoard.I like it's feel, colour rendition and overall very good to excellent image quality.I grant it the second place in my compact 85mm lenses ranking, after Minolta Rokkor 85/2.0 and Zeiss Sonnar 85/2.8 C/Y,that hold the first place ex-aequo.

Voigtländer 75/2.5 Color-Heliar to complement FD85L as it's lightweight brother. Now the pocket size set is ready. I gave it first spin during the weekend, and it's simply superb.
