wait, the lens itself is glowing? I have the older FL version, it has that glow wide open yes, when stopped down at f/8 it's a very good landscape lens.
Since Sony can't be bothered to release a native wide angle prime, I just ordered the FDn 20/2.8 from evilbay, hope I get lucky cos all lenses seem to be sold in "mint" or excellent condition these days

The Contax version of the Distagon 21mm f2.8 is also a slightly smaller and lighter alternative to the ZF/ZE versions... I love mine.
I came across a nice-looking Zuiko 21mm f3.5 on Ebay recently and took the plunge; the last one I had didn't seem to be a very good performer, but that copy had seen a lot of use - I'm hoping one in better condition will be more likely to live up to expectations (although condition is never a guarantee of performance...)

Igor had what looks to be a really nice copy of the Hassy F Tele-Tessar 250/4 (he put it on eBay, so there were photos) at an irresistible price, so it should be on its way to me soon.

I had that lens and found it so-so. i would be interested to see if you like yours better. In the end I traded mine for the Schneider 150/4 for Rolleiflex.

Looking forward to compare the performance.
I've been eyeing the Dist21 for the last little while, so I'm interested in what your opinion will be after shooting both.

I can tell you, because I got both.Distagon sweeps the 20/2.8 FDn away.On the A7 it is sharp across the frame without corner smearing wide open.To reach comparable level of sharpness/lack of smearing, you need to stop the Canon down to f8.
My newest acquisition: Nikkor 20/2.8 AF-D is at least as good as Canon FDn 20/2.8,but smaller, lighter and with nicer Nikon rendition.
Another new lens:Voigtlander Apo Lanthar 90/3.5 original SL with m42 mount. - on the way.

I am not expecting Distagon 21/2,8 performance from the FDn 20/2,8 but if it is not too far behind at f8 it will be a good alternative when size/weight is a concern at less than half the weight with adapter.

You're not the first person I've heard that from, so my expectations aren't high, and if I were shooting it on film, the samples I've seen would be enough to dissuade me, but the samples I've seen on the small digital sensors look very good. I'll post my impressions once I have it.

Not so much a new purchase, but it might as well be. I've been considering selling my Leica R 180/2 for a few years now simply because I don't use it enough the way that I used to, so can't justify the cost if it laying around, gathering dust. Having used it recently, and refreshed my previous appreciation for this beast, I now see the errors of my ways. In effect I've bought myself a R 180/2, simply because I know now that I won't be selling it. I'll post some recent pic in the R thread when I get a chance.

I have a similar thing with my Mamiya A 645 200/2.8 APO, except I got it for a really good price so I won't be selling it. Whenever I do use it my appreciation of the sublime optics is refreshed.
I haven't bought any new lenses in a long time, but I did buy a Zeiss Vario-Sonnar 1.8-4.9/10.4-37.1 mm, attached to a Sony RX100 II. Really nice lens, stunningly sharp in the center. So many functions to explore in this little camera...

- Fujinon 27/2.8 pancake to have a real compact one-lens setup. Very sharp, better than expected.
- Fujinon 60/2.4 macro. Also very sharp and has great bokeh.
