The A6500 is really a great camera. I´m really impressed with it. If your problem right now is the AF, go for it. The loses in IQ, if any, are negligible.

Thanks, I think I am going to give it a try. The return policy in Germany is quite generous, the risk is marginal

Thank you both for your opinions.
I am also hoping for these improvements in the FF bodies. To be honest, I hate to invest money on bodies because they get old super fast and loose half of their value in a heartbeat. That's also the reason why I am probably never going to spend five grands on a potential A9 as long as I don't get paid for my work.
Actually, I am pretty happy with my A7II as a legacy lens and wide angle lens holder, it's just frustrating to see how I miss all that little funny moments of my little boy to the sluggish AF. I've read that the IQ of the A6300/A6500 is almost on par with the A7II, therefore it could be a great combination.
I am keen to wait for an A7iii but in that time, my boy grows up and many spontaneous moments will be lost until then. ...Show more →
As good as the image coming from the A6300/A6500 is (I own both), I definitely prefer the images from the A7II.
As to capturing the moment, the A6300/A6500 wins hands-down.
Thanks for your honest opinion. The difference in lighting between both images is pretty big but I definitely see your point.
The last image is simply spectacular I really want to be ready when my boy does stuff like that.
I own just three AF lenses: Batis 18, 24-70 GM, 85GM. The 24-70 will probably be the only lens that can take advantage of the fast AF.
Which lenses are really fast on the A6300/A6500 (so fast, that the camera is the limiting factor)?
I've understood that the Sigma lenses are pretty slow, otherwise I would have been interested in the 2.8/60. For now, the only really interesting companions that I can imagine to add are the 1.8/24 and the 2.8/70-200GM although the latter one is too expensive for my taste at the moment.
I'm hoping the new fe 85mm f1.8 that just was announced will also deliver fast autofocus (pre-ordered).
I find the Sigma 30mm f1.4 DN DC's autofocus to be more than acceptable on the A6500. I like the speed of the G 18-105mm f4. But so far none of the Sony lenses that I own are such that I would take notice of slow autofocus.
Are you guys shooting RAW? If so how are you handling them unless your on the Adobe CC plan? I currently have LR5, which doesn't support the a6500. Would love to hear how you are working around it.

I'm shooting raw with lightroom 6—which handles a6500 raw files.
Of course...
I had to the Alpha 6000 the Samyang 12mm f2 (80% of my pictures), the Sigma 60mm f2,8 (10%) and the Sigma 12mm f2,8 (10%).
This can be carried comfortably in a small belt pocket in addition to the travel backpack or even without.
For me it has to be always quick and easy to transport. My girlfriend is not very patient^^
