I have won an auction for a minolta kit, that includes several good rokkors. among them is 21mm f2.8 and 85mm f1.7. Any comments as to their hidden talents? I kow Sebboh has a few minoltas!

congrats! i've heard lots of very good things about the 85/1.7 and generally good things about the 21/2.8 (but i have trouble keeping track of the various ~20mm rokkors). sadly, i haven't used either of them. all my rokkors have clustered between 24mm and 58mm with a big jump to the 135mm. enjoy them, you should get a different look from them than you do from your zeisses.

I bet they are both great, you better get some samples up here!

TY for encouragement

which lodge shot do you like better, the grim faced guy or the wide shot?

I had to pray the nex would fire back up after shooting during heavy snow---when I looked down after focus and filling the buffer raw the camera was covered, hehe.

I was shocked to see I had the focus on the skiing gal---guess her age.

I am awaiting delivery of the lenses, I paid for them the same amount that FD 85L cost me and there are quite a few lenses beside the two I mentioned. I could not pass the opportunity! I hope they are not full of fungus or scratches - as so ofthen happens with ebay bargains.
I was refering to wide shot, uhoh7; I wish I had more courage to take such shots

If they do have some fungus or scratches, but seem to shoot OK (i find this often the case), I send the seller a message politely threatening negative feedback, but suggesting a price adjustment which would satisfy me. On a 150 purchase, this might be 40. Has worked everytime. I just never give any feedback before a close inspection and test.

I like the wide myself, I shot it from a balcony, with the very focus touchy 75. I was at least 40 feet away, so they never saw me. Catching the little embrace in the foreground was pure accident. To my eye it pops nicely in a pretty busy shot.

@das rocket

excellent shot! very fresh angle.

don't know how many nikons you have: great deals are:

the 24 f/2.8, 55 micro (hypersharp, though slow), and the ultralight 100 E 2.8

obviously many many other good ones.

The old 35 2.8 shift lenses are pretty cheap for that sort of lens--adorama has a bunch--I paid 160USD, and that gives the full tilt shift gamut. It's a bit heavy, but not out of hand.

show us more when you get some you like.

I have a 180 AIS ED which I am going to play with at some point.

In the process of considering buying the Nex 5 and was wondering if any folks around here have used it with the Zeiss 35-70 f3.4 and the Zeiss 50/f1.7 MF lenses. Glanced thru some of the pages but couldnt find any pics.

Regards,

I just got a NEX3 and own a CY 35-70/3.4 but don't know what adaptor to get, still learning about my system. I would welcome any advice on where to find the best adaptor for my lens.

(I have a cheapie adaptor for this lens and my 5D and it doesn't focus to infinity, so I am a bit gun-shy about just buying anything. Its a great lens for macro for me, but I would love to try it with my NEX but I just want it to work)

there's some here: https://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/969329/6#9246822
and if your scroll down you'll also see a comparison against the zm 35/2.8 and zm 50/2.

I regret looking at this thread. Can't resist the temptation. Now I'm looking for a Nex 5.
Anyone tried the Nex 5 and 90 cron combo for portraits? Would love to see one.

Kind regards,

Chris......

I'm sure the 90 cron will be fantastic, but the crop is 1.5x, so you might have to stand back a bit, hehe

the 50s and 55s are the natural portrait lengths for the nex. God, I won another 50 last nite--never thought i would--but it's not your average one. Should be here friday and I will get some fresh porn up.

Hi, it is a question of buying and testing, if you buy through ebay. If you can afford the price, Kipon and Metabones are usually all right. There are better ones, but they cost above £100. i myself bought contax c/y to nex adapter from bondscameras on ebay and it did not focus at infinity - sent it back.

BTW, can anyone recommend a decent but inexpensive adapter for minolta Rokkors I have recently won on ebay?

sebboh, Thanks for the link !

https://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/969329/6#9246822

Now i need to find an adapter that should work for both the Zeiss35-70 & 50/1.7 on the Nex 5 body.

Maybe i will shoot a pm to some of the folks that posted those pics in the above link.

Here below is a link to several different CY to Nex adapters but i have no clue which ones work or cause a problem with focusing distances:

i've been using the rj one. it's solidly built but needs to be shimmed if you want an infinity stop (as all NEX adapters seem to).

Is it the same as rainbowimaging? My FD adapter is fine in this regard.

i think rainbow imaging just sells a bunch of other peoples adapters from the states, because you can get pretty different looking adapters for the same mount.

hm, I did not know that, although I suspected they all sell similar stuff. I think I will just get a fairly cheap one then. Rainbowimaging sell one that has RJ letters on it. Then there is "Big is" - slightly cheaper. Both are made of brass and aluminium. I saw one twice the price - it was claimed to be made of brass.

the advantage of rainbow is they are in the states and ship fast. They are especially cheap if you deal direct.

When you get a chance can you give us a little shimming tutorial with some pics. I would kill for infinity stop....

agreed i've been going with them for my last few adapters just because of the fast shipping.

it can be quite simple to do with tinfoil and a screwdriver. unscrew the lens mount from the adapter, fold up a sheet of tinfoil enough times so that is thicker than the necessary displacement, cut the tinfoil so that it fits under lens mount when you screw it back into the adapter, screw the mount on, attach a lens (longer is easier to tell with), check to see if you can reach infinity (hopefully you can't), remove sheets of tinfoil till you hit infinity perfectly at the stop.

note: i did this once as a proof of concept, but since i presently have a machine shop to do as i please with, i make aluminum shims on a lathe after measuring infinity displacement (though i've been too busy to do that yet on my last couple adapters).

this shot is fantastic!

apparently the dof at f/1.4 near mfd is a little less than a honey bee width.
