NEX7 Vs 5N... Well, this is what I did. I reasoned that, if the 7 produced pics that showed better IQ than the 5N even under the set of circumstances that would be the ost unfavorable to it, then it was game over.
So I took 3 shots with each cam, as similar as possible, in P mode, so that each cam "did its thing", and with the kit zoom. Very simply, the kit zoom being the least resolving of all my lenses, better lenses would only show greater differences. So if the kit zoom showed any difference, then that would set a floor for 7 performance that the 5N couldn't reach. Incidentally, it would also validate Sony's selling the 7 with the kit zoom, despite the apparent imbalance between lens and camera.
Well, before you shoot me for using a flawed methodology, let me give you the results. They matched what I thought when I used the 7 alone with a top lens. Even with the kit zoom, the difference between 5N and 7 is significant, of the same order of magnitude as between the 5 and the 5N IMHO. It is indeed game over. The 5N is a superb camera, one that has given me many fine shots, and much pleasure. But the distinction of being King of the Mirrorless Hill has passed on...

The NEX-5N looks contrastier. Conversely, the NEX-7 holds more tonality This is almost Zeiss vs. Leica, except it isn't

The NEX-7 clearly has a better flag.

hmm, okay the shadows are darker with the 5n but that could be easily fixed in post, in my experience you can lift the nex-5n's shadows quite a lot without any issues.
Do you see any other differences?

well the 7 should have a resolution advantage but you can't see that in an image 1/28th the resolution of the original.

Well, I think I can Look at the chimneys on the roof. Look at the end of the cannon. Look at the stones in the foreground. All three areas appear to be slightly more detailed in the NEX-7 image. Maybe it is processing, maybe it is bad drugs, but I do think I see that. Somehow the difference is similar to the Zeiss 35/2 vs. 35/1.4.

After that comparison I'm confidently keeping my 5N., and skipping the 7, waiting for the next generation instead.

Can't tell the difference either. Would venture to guess that difference in perceived color and contrast is maybe attributable the exposure?

Phillipe is seeing something that we don't see. I would attribute that to compressing the image for the web as opposed to his viewing of full resolution images.

Yeah, both the sky and shadows on the 5N are darker.
