wfrank - Have you tried Google+?

It gives a lot of flexibility re sharing photos with different 'circles' and has a great uploader.

cheers,
David

Thanks David. I assume that's Picasa - which I am not that acquainted to but when I tried it I thought it felt a little bothersome not allowing larger images (e.g. 1280-1600 or so) - and found no BB sharing (like direct links from Flickr which is neat). Maybe I should give it another go, will have a look.

Can't say I noticed the size limit, must check that! As you say too, Flickr's direct links are easier. The main thing I like about G+ is the filtering you can use to share different types of image - family stuff, specific hobby related stuff and so on.

maybe things have changed, but i found picasa worse than flickr with regard to oversharpening images. i never notice extra sharpening when i upload at 1024 on flickr, but i have a pro account and haven't looked too closely. also, unrelated, if you upload to flickr at 1280 with a non pro account it allows you to see the full sized image and post it elsewhere, but anything larger than 1280 and it downsizes it to 1024. kinda weird.

With a Flickr Pro account, there may not be any sharpening or other things going on with 1024 images if that is the size you upload since it would be the 'original' size in that case. I have been told that the original is never modified by Flickr in any way (makes sense). The free accounts don't have the 'original' option under sizes, no matter what size we upload at.

I will have to check out G+ since I do have an account and I'm also coming close to my 200 image limit with Flickr...

I stopped using Picassa due to the clumsy nature of sharing and obtaining direct links...I'll have to check out how it works in g+ since its build on the Picasa back end.

When it launched there were no limits..given how unsuccessful g+ is by comparison to Facebook, I doubt that's changed... ?

Google+ is actually quite popular with the photography community; Facebook never was (a lot of photo sharing at Facebook of course, but of a different nature). Many have moved from flickr to Google+.

The sharing model is more sophisticated than Flickr, but I believe you can only get direct links to publicly shared pictures and posts for privacy reasons.

I would check it out and see if it suits you.

Why wouldn't you setup your own website?
Very easy to do and as cheap as a "pro" yahoo account.

I can recommend a hosting place, very very fast, reliable and cheap.

^ I have a site, a couple of them actually. One is a photoblog for friends and family and we keep the URL private (hidden from Google), also don't host photos there that I share in forums to minimize the amount of random people coming across the site.

Flickr is easy and convenient, the pro account is only what, $2/month? Might resort to it if G+ doesn't pan out.

Back on topic...

Phillip, those images from the 501/.4 are great, I'm really liking the second.

Kharen, nice boat scene, nice colors from the Pen F. How do you like the lens overall?

Here's one from yesterday with the 5N + CV 15...

Yah, I host my own...I'm a career it guy, I don't want to host my images too, anymore than I want to run exchange at my house.

Wow, that b&w looks great. If you can recover those hot spots just a little I think it would be even better!

I really like that stitching, out of curiosity, what software do you use to stitch?

Agree, and thanks. Afterwards I checked in Lightroom, and it looks like there's some recovery possible. We'll see if it works.

Photoshop. It works well with Lightroom. Even better were I to pay attention to the histogram.

I have seen a few people interested in the 28 Summicron - I just started using this lens on the NEX, so I figured I'd show a few examples of why you'd pay $3000 for a lens. Aside from the painterly style (low-contrast), the real Leica magic tends to happen wide-open. I am not sure if the 28 R is like this, but here are two similar sets - the first one is stopped down a bit, the second is wide open. Minimal processing, so the color temp/vignetting are typical. Not the most imaginative comps, just figured this could/would be helpful.

f/5.6 or so:

that night and most nights out - ketel one on the rocks. full raze lent me his summilux - it was like a hasselblad lens was shrunk in size but not in weight. it probably kept me upright.

Legal Trouble:

I like how you took something boring and made it beautiful. I usually don't like architecture shots but your post work and the comps make me like them.
