I like the nex-7 very much so far I think I prefer the d700 in low light more (this is iso 6400), but I suspect that this grain-situation may be a bit because I use Alien Skin to add film grain. I guess I should work a bit on that But from iso 100-1600, this camera is quite amazing. It fools you in the beginning, because you are used to (or, I'm at least) zooming in 100% on 12 megapixel images, and when I zoom in 100% on the 24 megapixel files, they don't look as "clean" as the 12 megapixel ones, but the entire image on the other hand... great!

Piotr P - nice color in these shots, were they taken with 5N or 7?

Ulrikft2- Are you able to post any more shots with the 7? What are your thoughts on the camera so far?

I have not much "share worthy" yet, but hopefully I'll get something worth sharing during the coming week.

My first impressions are good, the ergonomic hickups I had with the nex-5 is gone, the size is pretty much perfect for me and the three wheel system is just great. I use the smal back wheel for iso and one of the top wheels for shutter, the other for aperture.

The viewfinder is.. amazing. It is pretty close to my D700 finder for size/brightness and having a level, histogram and other info in the finder is superb.

I hope you don't mind, but i'm trying to teach myself post processing and I have lots of free time this morning since my trusty canon is at the repair shop and none of my adapters for my nex have came yet. I took your image and filtered out the chromatic noise.

I don't mind at all I don't have any programs that do a very good job with noise reduction, so I tend to leave well enough alone, but that looks a lot better!

d.topp - thanks for sharing.Quick question all of your files were 2020 x 1380 were you shooting in jpeg at a certain fill size or were all of these shots cropped to the same dimensions. They look really good IMO just would like more details.

Apiel123- that full size shot with the 100MP looks very nice great detail in the eyes and mouth.thanks for sharing this with us.

Herb - very nice samples with the Leica too bad i do not have an extra $3000 lying around that i could you use to buy me one

A few from breakfast. We sat at the bar as the joint was packed. I took images of the group next to us, I don't think anyone noticed the NEX. I decided today to pick up a Nex 5N. I like the system alot, and the OLED VF will be very nice for outdoor shooting.

Yes, Herb, but the 28mm Ultron is a symmetrical design, therefore not the type that the NEX handle well. Question is, how would it handle for example a Leica 28 Summicron?

"The 28mm performed very well. I was able to get very sharp results. I'm using the somewhat radical sharpening parameters that I developed for the Panasonic GX1, and they work rather well for NEX-7." (he is writing about the ultron.)

It amazing to me that one paper from zeiss has everyone predicting problems beofre viewing reuslts. In my search for ultron images on the nex I did not see any real problems---which is not to say they are not there, but simply that we ought to base our judgement on hard results---multiple results if there are issues.

Your Paris shot was all I needed to see to buy the zm18. One great shot is far more definative than a problem shot--because there can be mulitple sources of the problems.

Frankly I have seen very few useful nex-7 samples with RF wides so far--which is a bit sad, since all you have to do is get in an elevator and shoot a cityscape from the roof--or something equivilent.

That's not to say that longer shots tell everything--but they tell a great deal if you want a lens for landscapes. The shorter shots tell far less. Herb's n7 shot with the leica 18 looked fine at the edge when you take into account the size.

We still know very little more than we did after Huff's article.

The idea than smearing and colorshift always go together is belied by the zm21/4.5. on the n5

Question:

What do you guys suggest in the 135-150mm range for the nex? Preferably sized like the contax 90/2.8? Out of luck? I guess I can use the nikon 180mm 2.8, but it is _huge_ even on the nex-7. Are the canon ltm 135s any good? other rangefinder alternatives? Other suggestions?

Philber, no problem. We see what we can do in the meantime. Anyway it is a slow process and we have to be very carefull to come to conclusions. Only practice will tell over time.
