would anyone mind posting any raw images or perhaps emailing them to me with a nex 5/zm 35/2.8? I just want to see whether the crazy awesome colors most people seem to get with that combination is straight from the camera or if they get there using some post processing magic? I can get decent color out of that lens (un-calibrated laptop lcd) but usually it looks a bit...washed out? i would blame the lcd if i just saw washed out colors all the time but i end up moving most my images to b&w just because the colors don't seem to be what others are getting. same goes with sharpness. even at 1/250 and faster shutter speeds at 200 iso i sometimes think that i am getting images that arent as sharp as those being posted by others.
any thoughts or suggestions on the matter would be much appreciated. i am fairly new to the hobby and would like to learn. ...Show more →
The pictures you see here with "crazy awesome colors" are all post processed, if you shoot raw you have to apply at least contrast and sharpening in post regardless of camera or lens. Otherwise you will get very washed out pictures, just as you described.
I applied some very basic PP on your picture (kid on the beach) and of course under such circumstances there won't be any crazy colors, but rather very natural ones more preferable for a portrait. Download the 30 day free Lightroom trial and try for yourself.
I have been playing with lightroom a fair bit for the past few months. However, I wasn't sure if I had gotten a shoddy lens or if something was wrong with my camera body or well, if I just sucked at taking pictures (which might very well still be the case ). It is comforting to hear that further work is required even if marginal to get the amazing pictures we see around these parts.
FYI, if you are posting to a thread and using hyperlinks to your images, you need to cut/re-insert the links in order for them to redisplay correctly. It seems that Fred's server cache's the ling image.
I have update my images on the previous page to display at the correct size.
Dave, I need something portable for school as well. I wish I could swing both but budget constraints allow either an iMac which sort of messes me up for school or a MBA.

My MBA could be my favorite computer buying decision of all time, although I do plug into an external monitor when need be.

And there was I thinking that you were referring to the spending conflict between purchasing an iMac, or having the funds to do a Masters in Business Admin.!! just what is an MBA?
BTW Ken that ice-hockey shot is very de-saturated in colour

Ulrik - thanks for reminding me that I should try filterstorm
sebboh - praise from a master! Your posts always serve to remind me of my relative lack of talent

Does someone have a gallery of examples using one of the stock lenses for the 5n. I see tons of images in this thread but it seems the majority are adapted lenses. After looking through the to about page 90 my eyes hurt.
