Just got my 5N today... was 20% off so couldn't resist. I have the Contax G you do + the 21. Gonna try them tomorrow and upload some images to this thread.

I really wish I could have bought a 24/2 that's up to the quality of the two contax g lenses. Any suggestions for ~ 35 fov that's fast enough for indoors....even a 28/2. Zeiss m mount maybe? I just want wider than ~53 for indoor stuff an oreferably f2 or faster. I can see why some would prefer lenses with built in focus rings...but my nex isn't here until tomorrow...damnit!
Congratulations on your new gear - I hope you like it as much as I like my NEX 5N and RF lenses.
I'm always hesitant to recommend a lens that I don't own, but it sounds like the Cosina Voigtlander 28/2 is what you're looking for. Sean Reid says it renders beautifully both in and out of focus areas and is great wide open. His major knock on the lens if that it has some focus shift issues, but that should not be an issue on a NEX since you can stop down to your shooting aperture and then focus on the NEX, which is what I do all the time.
Thanks jeff, that's the one I was looking at. . Well let's see how I take to this system. I'm really annoyed amazon flubbed things, but I got a better deal at another store. I figure my gf may want to use the 16 and for $100. Can't complain despite the well known limitations.

I'm excited to have such a small kit, so not to pollute this thread further, I will maybe start a tips and tricks thread for those of use crossing into the nex side of things..button mappings, settings, etc. hopefully some of you will participate who have been on this side for a while. we will see how it goes.
BTW, I forgot to mention it, but I like your idea about a NEX tips and tricks thread.

I just received my contax g 28/2.8 and 45/2.
D) the adaptor is relatively 'greasy' with some schmutz working its way out on rotation..I guess that's needed to work it in. It's quite stiff to turn, but smooth so far as I can tell. The focus ring is small, I wonder how that will work in use. I can feel the screw turning...sort of click click click. Are the more expensive adapters smoother or better ergonomic ally, or is it a law of diminishing return?
I have a cheap ebay adapter. Regardless of adapter it wont get near the smoothness of a real ring. That's the price of size and you'll still be able to nail it. My copy of the 28 became smoother with usage, the 45 and 90 was smoother from start. Love them all.
I've seen no evidence of that even the large-ring Metabones is better.
From a keeper rate perspective I dont have any difference from the G's vs any other lens. But sometimes it can take an extra effort to nail it. But you're safe since there's no chance that you'll accidently press the shutter when you've seen the peaking peak literally speaking...

Najib, didn't you have a copy of ZM 50 also? it should be interesting to see how it fares againts the Contax 45.
Upon a few quick shots it looks like the Contax 45/2 is better than the ZM50/2. The ZM is built like a tank and feels better and more solid, but so far I think the overall image quality goes to the Contax G. I'll do some more in depth testing soon.

Seems like you'll be a perfect candidate for the 24/1.8 e-mount Zeiss. A little bigger than the Contax G's, but with no adapter, probably not by a lot.
Thanks everyone. I'm blown away by the helpfulness of the thread and the mini community within here. Very cool.
I still have my nex7 and the zeiss on order. I guess my 24L And sigma 50 are going up for sale. I am really curious to see how much I use the nex vs 5d2. It looks like the nex may be more 'fun' which is great given I try to shoot daily to learn more.

Personally, I'm waiting on getting a lens in that focal length range to see some reliable testing on how the new E mount 24/1.8 stopped down a little compares to the 25/2.8 on the NEX 7.

See for me, if I am stopping down, Wider or the 28 2.8 should be fine. What I really want/need is for party stuff. One thing I miss about having a smaller cam is people not mugging for me at get togethers...and frankly LCD screens work better for that, the title should make it even better.

FWIW, the Zeiss 24/1.8 isn't as big as some make it out to be, but it is still over 50% longer than the Contax G 35 including adapter. A good alternative of about the same size may be the Canon 24/2.8 or 24/2.

Douglas/Michael...it's the same siZe as the e mount zeiss?
The e-mount Zeiss is about 65mm long. With adapter included, the FDn 24/2.8 is about the same, the 24/2 is about 73mm long, and the 28/2.8 is about 62mm long. The FDn lenses are relatively light weight and about the same diameter as the e-mount Zeiss, give or take.
