You got some serious DOF on that first shot! What was your aperture?
i think it was at f/8 but it could have been f/5.6 or f11. i cheated with that shot though with some crude focus bracketing - the bottom of the shot is focused on the pointy ice formation and the top of the shot is focused on infinity. i just cut each shot in half and told photoshop to merge them as a panorama. incidentally, it appears the NEX does have a fairly weak AA filter - i got some serious moire at 100% on some of those buildings.

Love the snow covered benches and bike. How do you like the out of focus rendering on the contax 45?
thanks, my feelings on the bokeh depend a lot on distance and application. like i've heard about many zeiss lenses the apparent dof seems deeper than i would expect for a given aperture. there is a lot of contrast in the out of focus regions which i think helps with 3d look but can sometimes be distracting or harsh. in general the transitions are pretty smooth though. one weird thing is that at certain camera/subject/background distances the out of focus discs have a bright center and a bright ring while at other distances they seem pretty even in luminance with just a hint of a bright ring. i would rate it as above average for smoothness, but i would definitely choose my rokkors over it when i want to make the bokeh a major part of the subject. stopped down it has hexagons which always annoy me.

Wow, love that rendering of the 45/2. Too bad there is no FF NEX; I'd like the true 45mm FOV better than the odd 67.5mm equivalent that you get now.
I'd like to see more from the 28/2.8 -- I thought Phillipe showed some shots, but it seemed that they had a bit of smearing in the corners?
thanks, it's actual focal length is something like 46.5mm so it comes out to ~70mm on NEX which pretty good for me - my ideal two lens kit is 35mm & 75mm (normal focal length is just an unhappy compromise for me). i'd love to see how it performs across the frame on high density FF sensor though. there is a shop in japan apparently that will convert them to m-mount and give them a properish focus ring.
as far as the 28 goes i've heard that it has corner smearing wide open but is fine at f/5.6 or smaller. i've seen a couple shots that looked pretty good from it.
Question for you NEX/Contax G lens shooters: Looking at the Metabones NEX/G adapter video on a ebay listing, where the adapter has a focus ring that turns the G lens focus pin, it appears the direction of focus from MFD to infinity is in the opposite direction than a ZM or Leica lens. Holding the camera/lens in front of you to take a shot, the focus ring is turned clockwise to go toward infinity. Is this the case? I was also wondering if the same is true for the Kipon brand NEX/G adapter or any other adapter for that matter.

the kipon one i have turns the same direction as nikon and pentax lenses, which is the wrong way for me since most of my lenses minoltas or olympuses.

Thank you, for confirming that. That adapter sounds very ingenius, even though it focuses the wrong way.

it is quite ingenious, though i would have liked an extra gear to make it go in the correct direction and higher precision machining for better damping and less grease leakage.
..haha, if only I could remember. It's 1/100, iso 250 (auto), so I would guess 2.8, but it could be wide open, it's about as sharp at f/2 as any 24 I've seen. The color rendering takes my breath away every time I use it..
You know it! It was certainly a highlight for me being a huge fan. I even got to chat with him and got a few pics with him and my kids. My son and his son are in the same class at school and we all got invited to the party. Good times.
sebboh, you are single handedly selling me on the contax g lenses. The nex/g lens combo looks extremely appealing. The lens's aesthetics fit the nex nicely, as well. Please, continue to post your images.
