Just received the Samyang version yesterday. Great portrait lens.
My only gripe is that the focusing scale doesn't line up with reality.
Infinity is off by a couple of hairs.
Maybe I should send it back and get another one.
Has anyone else experienced the same problem with misaligned focusing scale ?
Thanks, Jakob
so i tried to test it out the distance scale today and then i realized i don't actually have a camera right now with the same native mount as my rokinon. i have to use the lens with an adapter that allows me to focus past infinity on all lenses, oops. hopefully someone else can comment. i do notice that my copy allows you to focus a little past the center of the infinity mark on the focus scale suggesting they may be designed to focus past infinity.
I am considering this lens on my NEX, but have found that I like the focusing ring to be a little loose, otherwise the NEX body just doesn't have enough mass to counter act the turn and thus rotates if I try to focus fast. This is especially evident on lenses with a longer focus throw.
Would you say, compared to your other MF lenses, this one is on the looser side, the tighter, or middle?
The lens seems stellar for the price but I would be very frustrated if I have to fight it on every occasion.

mine is definitely on the stiffer side (one of the stiffest i have actually), which i actually like even on the NEX (maybe because all my heavily damped lenses add enough mass of their own?). my nikkor and takumar lenses actually bother me a bit because i feel they are a bit under damped, so i'm probably not the best to ask. i have heard that the rokinon focus rings loosen up with use but i haven't had mine long enough to verify that.
Interesting. I find my 50 1.8 Nikon is my favourite lens as I can focus it fast with one finger. My Rollei 135 2.5 is so stiff I miss moving targets more often than not.
A local store has the Opteka 85 1.4 which I believe is the same lens under a different name; I may go tomorrow and try it out first hand.
Rokinon 85 1.4 has a stiffer focus ring compared to the 50 1.8D. I've had 2 copies, both excellent and the stiff ring works quite well with a larger dSLR like D700/D3.

yeah, the way i shoot i never really have any desire to focus with one finger. my problem with the nikkors and taks is that if i take my hand of the focus ring i can't trust the focus not to shift.

anyway, here's another wide open shot. the squirrel was posing nicely till i pulled out the camera at which point he did this weird contortion. http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5023/5569489133_6ea514bc8f_o.jpg...Show more →
Oh well, thanks for trying. I rarely use infinity with this lens anyways so I'll keep it.
