I think the video from engadget shows switching from OVF to EVF. It looked like the edges were cropped off in EVF so OVF would be full framing. No idea why they did it like this.
Because EVF sees through the lens, where as OVF sees directly through the VF on the top left of the camera. The EVF view is 90%, the OVF view is >100%.
Think of EVF mode like using a DSLR (you can see shallow dof and therefore you can manually focus if you want) and think of OVF mode like a rangefinder camera (you can see outside your frame and everything looks "stopped down").
Of course the OVF mode has no focusing patch like a rangefinder would.
If the UK price will be under £700 I will be very tempted. I think they had to be competitive against the 4/3 market, and it being a fixed lens. Now we'll have to wait for some reviews. And March

I was refering to the framelines, not the VF window. Most RF cameras have framelines that covers ~80-90% at infinity, but closer to 100% at MFD. I don't see why this camera would be any different.
Anyway even that could be different (in theory) because these framelines are electronic, it shouldnt be much of a a problem to increase/decrease the size of the rectangle as you change focus distance. Fuji has always been really good at correcting parallax error, so it wouldnt surprise me if they added an extra feature to it.
In the press conference he mentions the framelines automatically compensate for parallax and mentions a variety of customizable shooting frames at about 2:20 in the video. Will be very interesting to see what features are in the finished product.
Holy shit. I was offline for 3 days and missed this.
I wish it was a 28mm equiv lens instead of a 35, but I know I'm in the minority that prefers 28 over 35. If this thing is quick on the shutter release and it is indeed around 1000-1200, I might be buying one.
I think if it goes for sale at $999 in US, Fuji will definitely have a hit, and I would imagine many people opting for it rather than m4/3. I love the design -- well done Fuji.
The most liberating and refreshing thing that I've experienced in the past year is carrying around and shooting with an Olympus 35RC rangefinder that I found at thrift shop for $19. I find that unlike an SLR, not only do I carry it around with me all the time, it's just darn nice to shoot with, and slides come out perfectly exposed even when shooting with the auto shutter priority.
I think this is a great-looking camera. I have not over the specs carefully, but like its rangefinder-like appearance. Am I the only one, however, that wishes for a zoom (something modest, like a 3-to-1)? Or the possibility in the next version for interchangeable lenses?
If it really comes in at $1k I might preorder something for the first time in my life. Predicting that, unless there's some crippling, terrible autofocus, this camera will sell faster than they can make them.
