Well, that's great news! Thanks for the correction.
So, looks like my initial guess of $999 - $1399 was not too far off. Maybe Fuji marketing folks are reading the forums to gauge where to price the X100.
I've been shooting a dslr lately but always looked for something discreet and compact that took great photos to replace it. Would this be a top contender knowing what we know so far about it?
By the time this camera is released, the question will be what else is out there (or soon coming out) competing for our money. We seem to be in one of those periods where there is a lot of new and exciting equipment being released - and I'm not just talking about a Photokina year.

Ditto - and I refurbed an Oly 35RC myself last year for the same reasons. Pretty cool.

I think if it goes for sale at $999 in US, Fuji will definitely have a hit, and I would imagine many people opting for it rather than m4/3. I love the design -- well done Fuji.
The most liberating and refreshing thing that I've experienced in the past year is carrying around and shooting with an Olympus 35RC rangefinder that I found at thrift shop for $19. I find that unlike an SLR, not only do I carry it around with me all the time, it's just darn nice to shoot with, and slides come out perfectly exposed even when shooting with the auto shutter priority.
Go Fuji and liberate more of us from the SLR ...Show more →
If it really comes in at $1k I might preorder something for the first time in my life. Predicting that, unless there's some crippling, terrible autofocus, this camera will sell faster than they can make them.

It is a camera, not such a "two finger twee tiny thing held 30 cm away from my eyes".
When the size of this fuji is compared to what else is available with large sensors and no reflex mirror, the camera is certainly not even close to the most compact. The Sigma DP's are noticeably smaller for instance. Even many interchangeable lens systems such as some of the micro 4/3rd cameras are slightly smaller. And the Sonny NEX's are tiny in comparison. That's not taking anything away from the x100, just an observation.
It'll be around £900+ in the UK if the US $1000 price is right. I can't afford that, although it's around what I thought it would be when I first saw it. I LOVE the camera though. Will have to see how it turns out. Really love at first sight for me, but I'm not sure I can really justify anything like it at this point in my life, lots of other expenses to take care of.
For those knocking nostalgia, there is a reason why people like cameras like they 'used' to make them. Clean simplicity of use and build. Shutter wheel, apertures on the lens, iso wheel. Makes life much more simple when you are carrying a camera everywhere.

If we're lucky! Kinda hard to justify when you can buy a camera as featured as the Nikon D7000 for just a bit more or the tiny and superbly featured Canon 550D for much much less. You have to really really want a very simply designed rangefinder shape fixed camera to spend a grand (sterling) on one. Heck an M8 is going for about £1500 used these days isnt it?

I could not agree more. Simple, straight-forward, intuitive, all of the basic controls in full view.
Wow, it is beautiful. I see people talking about pre-ordering already? Is it just because of the "look" or there are sample images/reviews that I have missed? I hope it's the later.
