at $1200, i'm even less interested in buying into the advertising hype of yet another aps-c-sensored compact. twice bitten (u4/3, nex), thrice shy.

a) u4/3rds is not APS-C sized.

b) Many folks here on this board produce fabulous images with NEX cameras.

Just read on the Fuji Guys' twitter feed that because the focus is focus-by-wire, you can program which direction you want it to turn for infinity/close - great idea considering that nikonians and canonistas will both by buying this thing

I think I'm ready to fold. I was hoping Fuji would get this right and use DNG for the RAW files. Instead, they're going to include Silkpix and a proprietary RAW format. I don't use Silkpix. I don't want to.

So my cost just increased from an expected $1000 to $1400 so I can buy an eventual Photoshop upgrade sometime in the future.

I'm puzzled as to why Fuji wants to punish the early adopters by making them wait for RAW conversion to be available, when it would be instantaneous if they used a format like DNG.

Hi Eric,

I agree, it is a hassle. I use quite old cameras, so it's not really an issue for me, but DNG is clearly the way forward. I had the same problem with a compact I bought, but thankfully it isn't as much of a hassle as I thought it was. You can download a DNG converter for free from adobe - you can just set an input and output folder, and keep them the same, so it literally just becomes a drag and drop scenario. After conversion, just move the old files over/delete the ones that aren't needed. Sounds a bit of a hassle, but it is quite simple.

There are many possible announcements coming, such as a "pro" Olympus Pen, whatever that'll look like, and now maybe a Nikon mirror-less, that I think it would be wise not to pre-order the Fuji. That was my conclusion at least, but I already have a Epl1/VF2/panny 20mm to shoot with right now.

I just think our options may expand significantly by May or June. Time will tell.

Looks interesting. Odd shutter speeds though..1/42, 1/70, 1/210. Something with the leaf shutter being continuously variable?

I'm not surprised, posting pics from a pre-production camera.

What about someone like me, who is Swedish and living in Norway..?

About the Norwegian site Akam: It seems like Akam didn't do anything wrong - it was Fuji in Norway that misunderstood the instructions from Japan, and therefore gave the wrong instructions to Akam when they lent them the camera for testing.

Every time I see your photographs from Trondheim my heart jumps, those years when I studied there were the best of my life

So glad to hear that you enjoyed your time here! We moved here in 2004 (because of my husband's work) and felt at home right away. It's such a pretty and friendly town.

That's harsh!

Back to the camera: I'm still tempted by it. "My" focal length, close focusing, nice looks etc., but I'm not sure I'm going to buy one. We'll see. At least not right away.
