So got around to confirming the 800mm 5.6 incompatibility with IBIS/VR. First I tried it on the D810 and it was again a dismal failure because the focus is so hard to nail on a DLSR (for me).
On the Z6 the focus works perfect half the time.
BUT if you turn IBIS on while on a tripod the picture is always a bit fuzzy. If you care just compare the two below at 100% on flickr.
Here at this magnification they look the same, this is the best I can get with IBIS, thought the lens was defective for a year or so, it is actually perfect, just so harrrddd to use.
And now for good measure the 600mm 5.6 from the 60s next to the 800mm 5.6 from the 80s.
Do not compare color contrast, different day and light. Do compare sharpness. Nothing scientific about this, just making sure I understand what my long lenses can do.
The difference in magnfication is interesting, I was expecting less difference in image size, it feels like the image is twice as big on the 800mm, maybe what some people think, that image content is related to the square of the focal length is true.
If you have a 800mm 5.6 VR G send it in for a comparison.
Z7 + FTZ + Nikkor-O.C 35mm f/2 ai'd & CPU'd, ISO 64, f/5.6 at 1/800s. 82% cropped (37/45MP). This neo-gothic palazzo was the seat of the Padua fire brigade from 1906 to 1989. We have Dante (left) and Giotto (right) statues in front of the building.

Interesting results Rafael. Still not used the 800 with the Z7, but with lesser 300 & 400mm hand held, IBIS was essential. BTW, I noted that is essential to use front curtain shutter to avoid blurred images with these 300-400mm lenses. Have you tested this option too?
What I am concerned is that both 35/1.4 NC and now the 35/2 OC have abismal loss of sharpnnes at borders with the Z7 EVEN when i use f/5.6 or f/8
Need to test IBIS on - off, Front-Curtain Shutter, etc. setups to see if one of them is the responsible, or simply these lenses did not deliver at the 46MP sensor borders.

It is the combination of tripod , IBIS, and long focal length that creates a problem for me. I need to make sure I am using a high shutter, speed, electonic shutter, on Z7 and D810, and front curtain on the D800, plus manual focusing of the 800mm 5.6 perfectly on a DLSR is quite hard.
Mirrorless is fine to be able to focus and get this type of result:
More at the waterfront, this time at Annapolis, with the State Capitol building prominent in the centre background. Warm enough in mid-February to go sailing.
Jose, that's interesting, need to check out the 35mm lenses with the Z6 to see if I get those results.

Raphael and Jose, your take on long lenses and their use on the Z6 &Z7 is interesting to follow. All shots posted are terrific considering the use or non use of IBIS.
Jay I am surprised no-one picked up on the E Bay shot. Very Cool,
Samy your views of Annapolis bring me back to another time. The City seems timeless with its great sense of history.
Colin and Andy here we have a wee bit o' Scotland courtesy of the North East (Jacksonville) Highland Games. Hadn't attended one since I broke my legs so it was an exciting day. Downside is I only brought the "chipped" 28mm 3.5 which was too wide for the day. What you see is mega cropped images,
The caber toss with an eager participant in the way. At least for this attempt that went 12 0;clock!
Nice! Pity you didn’t bring a telephoto. Been a while since I attended a Highland Games event. Looks familiar apart from the baseball caps, sun glasses and sunshine.

Glad you got those pics on your trip. Italy seems to be iffy to go to at this point. I have had in my mind to do an Italy trip for several years, and looking at Jose's and recently Serge's pics that trip is definitely on the list, some day.

Rafael you certainly seem to getting the hang of birding with the super teles!
Ken, that light in your pics is just a give away, I started to scroll up and knew right away those were yours. Sure looks like an interesting game from the Highlands! Have to get around Annapolis a bit more, especially when the weather's better.
