Question for fellow MF users. Have you jumped onto 4K monitors? I am in the market for a new monitor to go with my new Mac Mini. I am jumping onto Mac and will need some suggestions. didnt want to buy monitor from Mac due to price. I was told 24/ 27 inches is a sweet range for monitors with 4K.
Any suggestions?

every time I look at them I realize I need a new video card to drive the screen and that's just too expensive when I consider that so far I have been doing just fine without a 4K screen.
And I don't use Macs unless somebody else pays for them, so for home, I am not even considering the prices you are wondering about. I'd never pay more than $500 for a 32" 4K, but I need a $300 video card to replace my card that tops out at 2560x1440 or whatever that useless resolution is. I have no problems with 3 screens though, and for me that's a good enough alternative. I'd still be zooming in and out of D810 files even on 4K. Below 32", you can't even see the pixels, so why bother.

We're enjoying a long weekend in Sauerland, Germany.
Great weather a beautiful environment.

We jokingly say in the Bay Area, if you don't like the weather... drive ten miles or wait three days...
I guess with participants from around the world in both northern and southern hemispheres we'll always have great variety in weather. I got a call from a fellow working at one of the banks I used. He asked me about our weather in San Anselmo... he is five miles away in Kentfield...
It looks as though Europe is enjoying fine weather, judging from photos posted by Philippe and Chris. Those mountains in the distance are a delight Philippe. And the street scene Chris are evocative as well, especially after receiving an email from Rinie with a photo from Ghent. I think she's hoping to snare me for another trip to your side of the Atlantic. I'll surely never tire of visiting, though my bank account is a bit thin after buying a car last December. But who knows...
Just remember Colin, it is that paying job that permits you to indulge your favorite hobbies, including photography. Yes, I recommend retirement to everyone who wants more time for themselves, but it really works best when there is a bit of disposable income available to pay for those adventures we want to take. Work hard and then you can play hard...

Ever mindful of the difficulty getting a LENS to Buddy during the second round of the Great Nikon Lens Adventure, I hope the new address is easier for the postal service to find. I'm certainly impressed by Buddy's skills and by your generosity George. Hope you guys work it out.
True, there was that as well.
A lens sent to me after the great lens adventure actually never got here, so the new address is, if anything, even trickier to get mail to I'm afraid.

There is a great deal of generosity in this thread-community---with sharing of practical knowledge, experience, leads on lenses, processing tools and techniques, etc.---but as the first recipient of Nikko for the second Great Nikon Lens Adventure, I can attest to George's generosity as one of his most evident qualities.
Here are three more photos from the physician's house at Fort William, all shot with the 16 f/3.5 ai. The first shows the master bedroom, and the second and third show the children's rooms.
Here's a shot I took some time ago of the same flower in a different setting with the 180 f/2.8 AI-s without an extension tube... This too was shot wide open.

I took the diminished tube setup for a spin this morning... the 135 f/3.5 Q AI with a PK-12 attached. Shooting wide open at f/3.5 seems to work.

Now that would be cause for consternation for me... losing lenses is never fun.
I wonder Buddy, whether there is a more reliable address to which the package could be sent that you could rely to hold it until you can pick it up. Just a thought... even a local post office might work. Hate to have you miss out on George's home roasted coffee. I'm guessing that would be quite a treat.

I am with you Peter. Multiple smaller screens (HP in my case) suits me just fine. I am not a fan of grossly overpriced Apple products and their manufacturing practices. You pay an awful lot for all that double sided sticky tape that holds them together.
In truth I bought THREE f/3.5 lenses, the first of which was not converted. I ended up selling that to Mark A. Then I went shopping for converted lenses and through some fluke ended up buying two of them... one for $51 and one for $65... both in mint condition.

Actually, I did fairly well with my most recent iMac purchase. All I did was buy a new three year old model with rather basic features... 27" yes, but not with what they call the Retina screen that takes resolution from 2560x1440 to 5120x2880. Without the retina display and without an internal SSD the package was reasonable. I already had a 500 GB LaCie SSD I hooked up using a Thunderbolt port. It is fast enough for me and I'm more than happy with the display.
Of course, I'm delighted the world has room for both PC users and Mac users, even as there is room for those shooting with Nikon and those shooting with Fuji...
Something a bit different with the same setup. A neighbor bought a home for $780,000, then tore down the building leaving only the foundation. Apparently doing that saved him some money when he built his new home atop that foundation. After finishing the home, he must have decided the huge fir tree standing in his front yard needed to go. I don't know, but I expect he needed permission to take that tree down. It was quite a project. The owner was left with quite a few segments from the trunk that now lay around his front yard. I thought I'd take a close shot and see what I could make of it. I ending up cropping and processing with Silver Efex Pro 2... for the fun of it.
