All the talk of exposure, Sunny 16, meters etc. reminded me of a shot from last week that I almost just hit the delete key on.
Had the Leica set to full manual from shooting indoors and came out in the bright sun and didn't think to check the settings. No EVF in those "mirrorless" Leica's
Anyway, posting here. Highlights and exposure way beyond recovery, but I sort of like it anyway. So even an accident can have some visual impact.
I noticed that the days of the cheap Nifty Fifty 50mm f/1.8 are over, the price of the Z mount 50/1.8S is what $995 ? Still plan on getting the Z6 but won't be getting any new lenses !
I think I'm up to Kerala Backwaters in my Indian trip posts. The Backwaters are areas of flat land reclaimed for agriculture, the backwater bit is actually named from the fact that the resulting canals between the reclaimed fields used to be tidal and the salt/brackish water backwashed up the canals.
Eventually the canals were dammed as it meant that they could then produce 2 crops of rice per year instead of 1. Unfortunately, the removal of the salt water in the canals meant that the Water Hyacinth that previously was kept in check by the saltwater now grows unchecked and is choking up the canals.
The history of the area is quite interesting, retold to us by the Home Stay owner. Basically a feudal system that still continues as the Home Stay owners own all the rice fields behind the house and employ villagers for cleaning in the main house, tend to the rice fields, etc.
The "village" is small houses/shacks on the square path that makes up the boundary of the rice fields/banks of the canals.
For Amol and Reagan! Here are 3 sets of photos that are cropped to the limit using the Z6 in Dx and Fx mode. The camera has limits but they are way out there. The Fx was with the NOCT. The Dx used the 35-200.

Nice series Andy. Another place I need to visit.
Although not cheap this 50mm is by far the best one Nikon made over the years.
If you read the reviews of whatever S-lens you'll see they're very good.
My 24-70S has better IQ than my 24-70E and is 1/2 the price and as kit-lens 1/3rd (although no 2.8).
Looks great! Speaking of which I did try DX mode and shot supermoon just after my 200-500 got delivered. And pics turned out pretty good I would say. Have to shoot some birds now.

I've come to really enjoy shooting with the Nikon 55mm f/1.2 AI in the 5 months I've owned it so far. It's not perfect...it's not super sharp wide open (I actually like this for portraits), it vignettes a lot, the bokeh can be busy, and most annoyingly (in my opinion) it has no small amount of chromatic aberration and color fringing.
But...the images it produces have such a nice "feeling" to them. I don't really know how to describe it. It has a 3D sort of rendering (I know the existence of 3D pop is controversial). Maybe it's the vignetting combined with the shallow depth of field and glow-y characteristic.
It's not a lens you can shoot in a run and gun fashion; manual focus can be tricky, but I sure do like the images it makes (the feeling of shooting with such a nicely built lens is also nice, too).
Here's a photo shot wide open at f/1.2 (that's why you buy this kind of lens, isn't it?). Monza 3.6 Evo by Noah L., on Flickr
Thanks Chris. The only AF lens I own now is the 50/1.8G but I never use it these days anyway, (100% MF for me now). When I get a Z6 I'll just use it with the ftz adapter.
Regarding prices, yeah I see the reductions too and that the FTZ is being included for free - I was thinking of not getting it and just getting a cheap adapter but now that it's included I might as well get it.

Took these around Lincoln Center with the S5 Pro & 28/2.8 AIs.
Second floor balcony in the Time Warner Center which is a very popular spot for snapping photos.
Jazz and blue skies:
The perils of Manhattan real estate. The relatively new white condo tower lost its natural light, eastern and Hudson River views. Suspect there are many very unhappy campers.
Thanks all for the likes.
Have a fun weekend!

Wild flowers in the desert. I would love to see that one day. These are all great but the 3rd one in this series is my favourite.
Resting the Z6 for a while?
Colin
Thank you Colin, The Z6 is great but at 36mp both my d810 and D800 best it for landscape. Plus, I was using polarizers on the two cameras and the Z6 electronic viewfinder does not work as well as a prism finder to set the polarizer.!!
