Markus A better bet is the 135mm f/2.8. The f/3.5 is not as contrasty, is prone to flare and not as sharp. A lot of f/2.8s were made so these are widely available and inexpensive.
These are from The Newseum, DC. I had three hours before the train departure so took a little detour as had never visited. For those not familiar, it hosts every Pulitzer prize winning photo, plus a few of the cameras that took them. It is a very interesting museum and well worth the visit.
Taken with the Fuji X-E1 and 28/2.8 AIs, all @ f/2.8.
Section of the photo display:
Some of the gear that took them. Nearly all cameras on display were Nikon. The lenses look familiar.
One Leica was on display, Nick Ut's M2 which saw quite a bit of action in Vietnam. I would not mind taking the lens for a spin.
Thanks all for the likes and comments.
Regards,
Serge

Andy, some day I want to get to Chennai and get a pic or two of those tall majestic temples. Hope you got some pics of those too.
Like these Samy? Yes, lots of them and lots more to come I suspect. I'm still torn between showing them in all their glorious colour or in B&W which I personally prefer as I think the colours overwhelm the eye/brain and that you can see more of the details without colour.
This is Kapaleeswarar Temple. Located in Mylapore in Chennai and is believed to be built by Pallavas in the 7th century. Lord Shiva is worshipped in this temple as Arulmigu Kapleeshwar and Goddess Karpagambal – a form of Shiva’s wife Parvati. The temple structure stands as an emblem to Dravidian architecture.

Huss I would like to thank you : after I've read your post about the nikon ES-2 a few days ago I've bought it : It is a useful and effective tool and I now very much enjoy looking at my old scanned slides.

Sorry to disturb train of beautiful pictures. Quick question please : anyone here who has Japanese market pancake 50 and American market pancake- do you see any discernible difference in IQ between the two?
Are you talking the Series E and the Japanese short throw 50/1.8? I think the Japanese copy is multicoated where the E is single coated. Only time I saw any difference was shooting into the sun; and barely at that.
Andy, both colour and b&w are welcome. I don't mind being overwhelmed I wanted to see detail too like in #2. These pictures are even more inspiration for a Chennai trip some year.
Serge, I have been to the Newseum but somehow have missed that section, thanks for posting! Very unique museum and glad its there.

No, not the series e 50. There were 2 pancakes made each for Japan and USA with Nikkor branding.
Hummingbird at my place. Quite difficult to bring them in focus with MF lenses. This was with 50mm f/1.4 AIS lens coupled to D7200 (at f/1.4. : Not exactly sharp but I like the dreamy look!)

Well I picked up the 400/5.6 ED and he came with a second lens, 500/8 Mirror lens (in case). Both for $200. 😳 The mirror lens more than covered the purchase. Although it’s dusty, it’s Raphael level of ownership. Doesn’t have the color filter set, but does have the hood. It’s a thousand times nicer than my old one.
Can tell the 400/5.6 was a loved lens. Signs of use, but still like new glass and smooth focus. I was looking at one in similar shape for $350...definitely got a deal.
Now to sell the 300. Beautiful lens, too damn heavy.
