Colin that's really some interesting contrast on the Harry Potter shot. I like it.
Ben, my old eye see the skates in the frame. Nicely done as usual.
Here are some from a recent visit to the Grove Park Hotel in Ashville N.C. from the dining veranda which is another 8 shot pano and around the hotel. Seemed to be very touristy this visit … go figure.

Nice view Ken. The mountains look familiar but even after 25+ years of living in North Carolina we have never been to the Inn. Biltmore either for that matter.
I'll jump in with Ken and add something to get the tread moving along. Taking Veteran's Day off but now has set in raining. So going through some shots from the weekend.
Still on the LTM lens kick
This one with the NIKKOR-P.C 8.5cm f/2 shot at f/8. Was shooting some plants. In this case some more Sea Myrtle and my neighbor was coming up the sidewalk walking her dog. Interesting f/8 bokeh in this lens.

Never been to the Biltmore either. Too touristy for us. I like rural NC as well as the beaches which are very touristy. You B/W shots of recent days capture very well what we like to see when driving down the road. That said ... is why we like NC, between Ashville and Boone. North central Arkansas and southern Mo.

If you want non-touristy NC beaches, go the the Outer Banks. When you cross over the bridge at Kitty Hawk/Nags Head, take a right and head south (aka 12 South). Stop when you get to Frisco and Hatteras Village
Everything north is tourist trap. Not as bad as Myrtle Beach SC, but way different than even when we first moved here.

George you are right and I have been there. My kids like Duck and Corolla. Been to Hatteras and other places on the OB BUT to tell the truth Florida Gulf and Atlantic Beaches are way more convenient for us. We dont have NC mountains though. From Leighton south thru the Blue Ridge is spectacular.

The company I work for has an office in Greensboro NC.
Never had the business opportunity to get there. Maybe one day.....

Colin - If you ever get a chance, my house is open. I live about a 45 minute drive from Greensboro. I used to have an office there and split my time between Greensboro and Raleigh. So I live almost right in the middle between them.

You are right about the mountains and yes I agree about the Florida beaches. I really like the Florida Gulf.
One treasure of the northern Outer Banks is Carova NC. Once you get to Corolla get on the beach and drive north to the Va line. 4x4 access only. We rented a house up there 11 years ago. Kayaking there on the Currituck Sound is like going back in time. A pocket of true wilderness with wild horses around you.

We used to go to Buxton to fish. What's it like there now?

To be honest, have not seen a whole lot of changes in the 15 + years we have been going down. Locals would probably say otherwise, but this is just from my visitor point of view. Still no chain restaurants or chain grocery stores (Food Lion north in Avon). But we usually buy our groceries at Conner's Market in Buxton, get our fresh seafood at Buxton Seafood, our mandatory pizza at The Gingerbread House in Frisco and a calorie busting "Apple Ugly" at the Orange Blossom bakery in Buxton.
If you want to drive on the beach to your fishing spot you now need to get a permit (can online or at several locations there) and you need to look at updated closures especially during the summer depending on where the sea turtle nests are at or in certain bird nest areas.
Not sure how long it has been for you, but the Frisco pier is gone (hurricanes over the years). Avon pier is still there for pier fishing. Cape Point is still the hot spot for surf fishing. Especially in the fall.

Thanks George - a very generous offer - reciprocated if you ever make it to the UK.
