I just checked B&H and they list availability for the Z7 as being Thursday, September 27... which just so happens to be MY BIRTHDAY... Do you think the universe is trying to tell me something I need to pay attention to>
Mine is the 25th: Two more and we have a straight flush...
Seems like we have the end of September well covered... the 25th, 26th and 27th... No wonder this thread is so fine... we have an abundance of Libra energy...
Libra Zodiac Sign
Intelligent, kind, and always willing to put others before themselves, Libras value harmony in all forms. Ruled by Venus, the planet of beauty, Libra adores a life that looks good. As the master of compromise and diplomacy, Libra is adept at seeing all points of view, and excels at crafting compromises and effecting mediation between others. This sign has a rich inner life yet loves other people, and they're always happiest with a large group of friends, family, and coworkers on whom they can count.
I visited a friend's new home last week and promised to take photos for her to share with friends. I'd met her cat before but this friendly rag doll cat could not be ignored. As soon as I abandoned the chair I'd been sitting on she perched herself on the back. I couldn't resist... this with the 55 f/1.2 S.C. AI.

The lens size, not to mention the XT-2 reminding me of my old F3, is the main reason I chose Fuji over Sony. FF mirrorless is great, but those lenses (except our MF Nikkors) are STILL big. Just physics.
Out of curiosity I had to compare weight of the new Z6 and my much loved Df. When you add the FTZ adapter, the combination is slightly heavier than the Df, 720 g to 708 g. The D850 weighs in at 915 g, so the differential is significant. The Fuji X-T2 is the lightweight at 507 g plus the weight of whatever adapter is used. I understand, of course, that the move to a mirrorless camera is about more than weight. I understand that the Z cameras offer some really appealing features like in camera stabilization and the articulated screen on the rear. And compared with the Df, the additional megapixels, even with the Z6 is appealing. I've done fine with 16 megapixels after shooting with 12 on the GREAT D700, but 24 feels a bit like a sweet spot. 36 and 45 feel a bit over the top for the kind of shooting I do.
So the conversation will doubtless continue... which is a good thing.

I can tell you that carrying my D600 all morning at the market is what led me to Fuji. I never thought that weight was going to be an issue, I was naive.
And yes...24mp seems like the sweet spot to me too. I can't ever imagine needing more for my style of shooting.
Do you still have the D700? I always LOVED the images I saw from that thing with these lenses mounted to it.

Curtis I've been using a mirrorless cam for 3 years and I could find only 2 benefits :
- the silent shutter
- the fact of being able to mount the small Leica M lenses with a tiny adaptor
IMHO all the other things are gadgets - just my 0.02 € of course.... -)

Don't forget focus peaking. What I love about it is framing the scene and not having to move to focus on whatever your main subject is. It works much better than the green dot, IMHO.
I really get it Philippe... for a street photographer the silent shutter is a godsend. There is no fun taking photos in a crowd and having everyone turn their heads to see who the villain is. And focus peaking that Leighton refers to probably doesn't help much when you're shooting from the hip...
But definitely, I should include the silent shutter and focus peaking as two further advantages of the Z and other mirrorless cameras. Honestly, I've always been a big fan of street shooting, so there is always the possibility that with the right camera i could go play. I doubt I'll find my way to Leica lenses, however, both because of my commitment to Nikon and the fact my pockets are not that deep...
This is going to sound way off topic, yet I can't resist sharing this. I've been very immersed the last year in reading commentaries on a Japanese Zen Buddhist teacher from the 13th Century named Dogen. The book I'm reading presently called The Mountains and Waters Sutra includes reference to the term "nikon" which is defined in a glossary of terms as follows:
nikon - This present moment, the intersection of impermanence and eternity, discontinuation and continuation, phenomenal beings and ultimate truth.
That may all sound a bit confusing, but I like the "present moment" reference since all of us engaged in photography know this is what matters most. Granted, we need to be prepared, but it is what happens in that present moment as we consider what we find in our viewfinder determines what we "capture" in that moment. Enjoy!

I never use the focus peaking : it doesn't work with large aperture lenses and above f/2.8 I shoot hyperfocal.
Frankly OVF is way better than EVF execpt for night shots.
Some leica lenses are real bargain : I paid less than USD200 for a fabulous (and 120 grams) 40mm summicron-C, USD300 for the 50 Cron-R, USD500 for the 180mm Apo-Telyt and USD700 for the outstanding 35 Summicron-M.
