You taught him well nice form. The toe of the butt stock seems to be right on the pocket formed below the clavicle. Nicely done, thats pure USMC training. Also, who does not love immediate feedback from 💥propane.💥

Love the quote... time flies when you're having fun... or simply living a life with or without fun. I was just musing about the only home I've ever bought and wondering what it might look like inside today. I fantasized a bit about walking to the front door, introducing myself and asking if they'd give me a tour. Then I realized I moved out of that house 34 years ago! I have no idea where those years went. At least you have the reminder through watching your children grow up where the years went. But then I imagine that is a bit of a shock as well. And, of course, the punchline comes at the end when no matter how much wisdom we've gained, life comes to an end and we have to say goodbye to it all. Hopefully, not too soon...

I'm a big fan of the 28mm lenses as well. 35mm simply never struck my fancy. I eventually bought the 35 f/1.4 AI-s that at the time was being touted by Gregory, Nikkor AIS who was definitely a character. But it never warmed my heart. I later bought the 35 f/2 O AI as part of m pre-AI adventure. Again, I was more drawn to 28mm.

Like a backalley arms deal, you popped open the trunk
Then unzipped the green canvas bag to display the goods
Arm stretched out in a welcoming flourish
And amongst all I pointed to that snub nose with the dark metal barrel
That one, if there were any I could loan, I'd like that one
The 35/1.4 AIS

Didn't get any good shots with it at all
But that don't stop me from browsing through eBay from time to time
Having a crop sensor camera now makes me re-think lens selections
And hey, the 35 would be great as a 50...

Had a minor procedure yesterday evening to remove the stye in my left lower eyelid
I've got an extremely low tolerance for pain and needles
(The doctor peered at me funny when I mentioned I used to be a transplant coordinator)
He cut a tiny 5mm slit and dug out the debris under local anaesthesia
It took all my willpower not to cuss out loud
So now that I'm home with one good eye, and not fit to drive out to get lunch, I made my own

Wagyu rump steak, cooked sous vide at 130F for an hour and a half
Seasoned with salt and pepper then rubbed with a thin coat of butter
Seared for 30 seconds each side in a ripping hot cast iron pan filled with just a tablespoon of avocado oil
Fried rice in the drippings; leftover rice with egg and smoked pork belly, plus the jus strained through a coffee filter
Served with a tiny ramekin of laoganma spicy chilli crisps sauce and a cup of jasmine tea
Not vegan at all, sorry

OHMMMMMMGGGGGGGGGG that looks so good, Chin. Glad you tolerated someone poking around your eye for a bit to remove that stye. Hopefully not down too long.

I hate to keep crying on everyone's shoulders, but life is getting to be too much this year, or at least the part between May and now. If you don't read to the end, that's ok with me.

First, I break my wrist, out of work on two jobs for several weeks. Get back to work on one of the jobs. Not getting enough hours. Fall and smashed my face on a sidewalk at work, get taken to get put back together. Wind up losing that job(hopefully I can find a different office soon). Other job, I'm back to work, but any time I'm scheduled, there's no cases or the case I was given is cancelled for whatever reason. I've worked less than 40 hours in the last month.

Then last week fell on me like a ton of bricks. Last Monday night, my dad called me but I was already asleep. I called him back in the morning and talked to him, he sounded a little weak, a little out of breath. He said he and his wife, my step mom, had been coughing a lot lately. Talked for a little bit, then he had to go to the bathroom, so I hung up the phone and went about my day. Wednesday.... blech.

Thursday, my son brings my laptop and I see an email from my dad that he sent on Wednesday, one of his jokes he forwards. The rest of the weekend, nothing. I get home today, and send them both an email. I didn't have her email address on the other laptop, but I had sent him an email saying I was in the hospital, and didn't get a response. That should have been my clue, but I wasn't thinking clearly with all my pain meds. Waited about six hours, no reply to the email, so I called the house phone to see if anyone would answer. My step mom answered and told me what she could. She's been good for him, and I know she's shaken up, and what with the holiday weekend.... Turns out she had bronchitis and recovered.

My dad fell Thursday, came to, unable to move or speak, stroke evidently ruled out. He can occasionally get the word "no" out. Some blood work has been drawn, but no results. Has aspiration pneumonia, some sort of dysphasia from what I gather, and paralysis. During the 50's, he had polio and it took him a long time to recover. She also told me that he has been having trouble swallowing for quite a while...

I'm just so done with this year. Thanks for reading this far.

Same here, Laura! So sorry to hear about your trials. I've been crossing quite a similar time last several months but for me the hardships were mixed with some (very) good things, so it was not that bad...

What I find so remarkable Laura is our resilience. Life's "body blows" as one friend calls them seem to keep coming. Certainly in the time we've been hanging out together we've witnessed them. Your husband dying, Ray Steele suddenly passing, Ken H. tumble and broken legs, Leighton's surgery and convalescence and what you describe above. I'm working at the moment with three people with stage four cancer. A fourth ended his life on Saturday afternoon after a thirteen year journey with cancer. Yet, there is life to be lived, whether as we grieve the loss of a loved one or negotiate the day with our own maladies. Yes, it is good to have support around us as we weather the storms of life. We never have to do this alone. Take exquisite care of yourself Laura. You deserve nothing less.

And a hastily taken photo of my dinner just now
I was excited that the two pork chops turned out quite well
May have misjudged the focus peaking detail before I tripped the shutter
I'll show myself out...

You know how to hurt a guy Chin with these gorgeous photos of MEAT... Exactly what every vegan foregoes... dead animals. The photos are gorgeous though, especially the first one so thoughtfully presented. And, of course, delivered with your usual rhetorical flair. You do have a way with words my friend.

I didn't realize the thing with your eye was quite so serious. You mentioned it relative to the photo Sue took of the two of us. I'm glad you took care of it. I'm a bit like my dad. He had a draft physical when he was seventeen near the end of World War I and next saw a doctor when he was 70. Of course, I'm with a health maintenance organization through Medicare and they INSIST on bugging me every year until I come in for a brief physical. And I'm serious when I call it bugging. Real live people leave repeated messages on my telephone until I return the call. Then they ask to schedule an appointment. So far, so good, but I'd rather avoid doctors if I can. I know that decision is not ultimately my own...

Now back to MY breakfast... a smoothie made with three frozen bananas, three stalks of celery and a handful of frozen blueberries with a cup and a half of water... mmm good, just like a shake, but without the milk.
