Thanks for the information Reagan. Brad was also the first person who brought a 55 f/1.2 lens to the thread. He did some quirky work with it. He started taking AF photos professionally, I believe at a swim club. He may have worked for Nike, if I recall correctly.
We all know that Monty came into a bit of money and decided to invest it in AF lenses which led him in a different direction. I miss both of those guys. They were engaged with the thread, each in their own way. Brad had two kids, a older girl and younger boy, both of whom we saw on the thread. We also saw his wife.
And yes, Nikon AIS went off the deep end, selling his Nikon gear to buy Canon digital gear. I'm quite certain he was often inebriated when he posted late at night, doing his photo dumps of dozens of images at the tim, and repeated old stories. Gregory was his name. He lived in Calgary. I don't miss him at all, though his stories were interesting the first time around.
No doubt we've had folks coming and going for year with a relatively few sticking. I guess it is much like life where change seems to be the only thing we can count on... Like the cameras in your kit...
There are three Dfs on the Buy and Sell board at the moment, one for around $1,100 with 4000 shutter actuations. I was even tempted to buy a second, then came to my senses....Show more →
I already spoke to him
and then I remembered what I didn't like about the first 2 that I owned
But never say never
I hope you have a rating system Reagan but it seems there aren't any cameras you do ultimately like enough to keep. Now, it is possible that you're incapable of being satisfied with a camera, that it is turning them over and beginning the process over again that stirs your juices. That is not a bad thing... keeps life from getting boring. And if you can handle the hassle and the cost, no problem.
But if you had a comprehensive rating system, at least you could make your next purchase the camera that covers the most important features you want. What was it about the Df that didn't work for you. You may have said something on the thread, but I don't recall...
I never liked the grip or the small buttons like the mode and on/off on the Df
Didn't get along with the right side strap location seems like it was always in the way
The front command dial was annoying why not a regular command dial
It did take nice photos and was light weight. Why is the sd card next to the battery.
It was a little difficult to get to. Some people will probably disagree with me but
I gave it 2 tries. You should never have asked
So it was a busy day, not much time for picture making but I brought in the Df and 5.8cm into the kitchen (this old 5.8 has a bit of lens separation in the rare glass element, it still makes great photos). Made some roasted potatoes, halibut, a kale salad and grill zucchini...basically everything from our garden except of course the halibut
Everthing shot @1.4 because it was a bokehalicious dinner

One of the numerous closed businesses on Main Street, Ellicott City in Maryland. After the latest of three 1000-year floods in the last 4 years, most of these folks are not coming back. The facebook page for the Tea of the Tiber says the county decided last week to demolish most of the buildings on that row, including 8081 Main Street.
I have had this a long time, been parked at the house 14 years, the tires were rotted but I just got some Military surplus 37x12.5x16.5 from a camp Pendleton Hunmer.
Now clean it, get the fuel pump going and make it run, the engine starts on starting fluid but pump is out.

Yep, just like using them on Fuji and I suspect Sony too. But honestly for me it never posed a problem on the Fuji. Since it is EVF stopped down usage gives you the true WYSIWYG.
Well, at least from the verbage is sounds like you enter the lens focal length just like on the DSLRs and I assume this info will make it to the EXIF.

Monty and Brad were 2 of them I believe Brad liked taking images of furniture in the street
Brad also took street photos of his son
Nikon AIS was the other he went off the deep end with a long rambling rant and had his account locked
and Ray also up and went away

Yes, Monty and Brad - I too miss their images and posts.
People move through different phases in life and they come and go. Some day I will no longer post here either for some likely bad reason.
BUT - there are many new faces as well since they left us It's all good.

I really like how this thread (out in space) mimics day to day life. We see the same thing at the market. We get to know folks and have them come for years and then they just stop coming for one reason or another. Most of the time we never know what happens to them, it's just part of life here on earth.
And yes, Gregory was strange. Remember his pictures inside the porta-johns?
Some of the guys you are talking about must have been before my time, although I have been on since ~mid 2012, soon after I bought the D800 and stumbled into manual focus. Glad I didn't come across porta potty photos.
There's also Allen (?) who posts I think from Texas, he has occasionally showed up since. Then Georg, who I sorely miss. Learned to dabble in the PC lenses seeing his excellent work with the 28 3.5 PC.
Scott, the entire Main Street of Ellicott City is historic. It has been a fun place to walk through and hang around, but I am thinking many of the structures have been so ravaged by repeated floods this decade that there's no other option. The street is at a bottom of a valley where water flows down from multiple sides, and the Tiber which flows along and under it, rises up quickly. In each of the floods, waters have reached up to the 2nd floor windows of some of the buildings.
Interestingly there's an antiques shop right near the bottom of the street, which seems to have survived better, it was one of the couple establishments open, and in the basement it looked like the owners were putting items back on display, while the upper floor seemed untouched. Somehow that building does better, maybe its off to one side, and the flood waters flow mostly by it and head to the Patapsco river. The antiques place had several old cameras although none looked functional and no, there were no Nikons. A couple of interesting old folders, but not in very good shape.
