Once the Italian men start to work their charm she'll stop calling - so leave it a day or so and you'll be fine.
Ok, yesterday was officially a sucky day. Vet appointment for Jerri, too sick to keep her alive. Get home, don't feel good, get chills, get into bed and sleep for a bit. Wake up to excruciating pain. Drive myself to the base hospital. I have a room for a few days

On the subject of having John White Ai-modify lenses, I can understand why the purists among us have some trouble with the the fact that such lenses become irreversibly altered from their original state. And now that I have a camera body/adapter combo that can use the lenses unmodified, I can happily obtain and use pre-ai lenses unaltered. However, while I had only Nikon DSLR bodies that were not Df's, I had some lenses modified by John. Scouring E-Bay, I was unable to find conversion rings for these lenses, or copies that already had Ai rings installed, so there was no way I could put the lenses to use without enlisting John's services. I agree with Max about the piece of white tape looking a bit cheesy; so I just removed it, as I have no need to have the apertures marked twice. Although on close inspection the cut-out section of the aperture ring is identifiable, John does an excellent job of camouflaging it with black paint so that it is not apparent at a glance. And his work enabled me to put these lenses to use, and enjoy turning their wonderful scalloped focus rings.
For today's post from me, no pre-ai lenses were modified or harmed in any way. I shot the photos below at Elk Falls, near Campbell River, BC, with the following unadulterated lenses (each of them sports a Nikon Ai conversion ring), respectively: 85 f/1.8 HC, 200 f/4 Q, and 24 f/2.8 NC.
Someone once said that nobody wants a 1/4 inch drill - what they want is a 1/4 inch hole. A lens, (and camera body for that matter) is a tool for taking photographs. For me if it has to be machined to enable me to use it so be it.While i enjoy the lenses I have i have to be able to use them.
I have no problem with collectors but without a camera that can take unmodified lenses I would not have been able to use the 50mm f2 or 5cm F2 or the 28mm f2.8 at all. They would have been useful as paper weights.
Mysh, there is a compatibility chart on Ken Rockwells site for the FTZ, I guess it came from the Nikon site somewhere
FM meet
There are no photos, so obviously you will all doubt it happened, but
I had the pleasure of a very good conversation face to face with Colin last evening.
What a thoroughly nice chap.
By the way I am thinking of parting with my 55mm f1.2 Ai - just saying
Steve
Nikon on Nikon and no harm or mods
It is true. It did happen.
The west coast route from Scotland passes near to Steve's abode so he kindly made time to meet up.
The conversation was indeed great. Too short. 90 minutes just flashed by.
Since both of us were driving neither of us could have a wee dram - pity - maybe one day...
Is that meet-up at Leighton's farm going to happen?
I've got airmiles and my wife wants to visit Washington DC.

Oh Laura! Ouch! What is going on? Hope you are feeling better SOON. So very sorry to hear about Jerri. It is always so hard to lose our best buddies. Hang in there.

I think I broke it with a response to Ken's comment about underwater caving. FM kept ignoring how I tried to highlight a quote and I edited a couple of times without success, then deleted my post, which was the one immediately after Ken's AND the last on posted on the thread. I reposted and could no longer get to the bottom of the page. Later I noticed that you'd posted something and I came back to see if these had sorted themselves out and they hadn't. On a lark, I tried to quote your email and saw the one I'd tried to post but it still hasn't appeared on the thread.
Sadly, I don't know how to fix it, so I'll have to be content with missing one comment and never seeing what is at the bottom of that page...
I guess Ani that the last two posts on that page were ones we'd posted since I don't see your's there either. You might want to post it again.

Curtis,
From memory I recall being stuck and not being able to see any post after mine. So I hit the “reply” button and scrolled down to see your post in which your response to mine contained another quote from you! Still no joy the normal way though!
I can understand Reagan being disgruntled and lashing out because he savors every post, prints them and puts them in a scrap book with the pictures of all his cameras! Sorry Reagan ... I did it. 🤪🤪
George, am I hearing a touch of envy in your congratulations to Paul? You've plenty of time for all of that. Leighton had to wait quite a few years before the grandbabies came on the scene.
Great photo Paul. The NOCT wasn't specifically designed for that kind of shooting, but it sure does a wonderful job. The nice things about these really fast lenses, that even stopped down a bit produces delicious bokeh. Congratulations.
Laura, sorry to hear about your furry friend AND your own ill health. Our friend Rinie is in the midst of a health crisis herself. I won't say more than that but I'm sure she'd love to hear from you. The gender balance on this thread has never been very good. I guess with Ani and Mary showing up recently, this is about the best we've had it. For a time it was only you and Rinie.
