At the end of this month I'm going on a 3,5 week trip to Central Asia (Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan).
In Kyrgyzstan the main subjects are Nature, some architecture, WNG (World Nomad Games) and people.
In Uzbekistan the main subjects are the Silk Road cities and architecture and people (will be difficult).
I packed my bag today (D850/D500,16-35G, 24-70E, 70-200E, 300E and TC1.4) and it seems I have some space left and I'm considering to take some MF primes with me.
I was thinking of the 24/2.8 NC and 50/2.0 HC (or perhaps 85/1.8 HC). The first 2 or really small and don't take to much space.
I could throw in the 8-15E and go all AF.

Hi Chris. Sounds like an incredible trip. I know you have the 20mm range covered with your 16-35G, but (looking in your profile) if you took the 20mm UD you could get some great Silk Road wide angle shots to share on this forum

It is peak season for the Perseids. I saw a few during setup in my back garden but 45 minutes later I only managed to capture one meteor of any note. To be fair I wasn't pointing my camera at the meteor source. I also tried out my infrared camera.
So first image is D610 & 24/2.8, second D7100 IR and most likely the 24 as well ( EXIF didn't register)
Chalk up another like for the colour one. If the clouds hold off (it is Ohio after all) then I'm going to make an attempt tonight, too.

Looking as a great trip, Chris! Honestly, in your shoes I'll leave home 24, 50 and 85. You do not have anything really fast, so I'll grab 55/1,2. Also for some portraits with less intimidating glass I'll add 105/2.5. In the AF zone, while I am a fixed lenses man, I'll be tempted to leave 300 home for 200-500. It's not the same IQ but a great range. Enjoy your trip, man! It will be rewarding!

Nice shot Colin. I agree with Chris, I like the color version too. What were your exposure setting for that one? Was it on a tracker or stacked?
G
I took the infrared images out of interest and yes I agree the colour one is better. FX versus DX too.
All were single frame, no tracking or stacking, 30secs, ISO 1600, f/4 plus a few tweaks in LR to pull out the detail.
It was also a new moon so that helped too.
Next time I need to head out into the countryside to get away from the tress surrounding my garden.

Thanks George, countdown already started a few weeks ago
I have everything covered with AF-glas, but I could swap the 20UD with the 24NC

Thanks Mihai.
If I take the 200-500 with me it's extra weight (2,5 pounds) and I need a bigger bag as well (now I'm taking a ThinkTank Essential, with the 200-500 I need the Accelerator)
The 55/1.2 is too difficult for me to focus with the D850, I could swap the 105PC for the 85NC though.
As Rafael has already shown several times, the 400/3.5 EDIF accepts very well all TCs, even the 2x ones. Last field trip, to stay more light and portable, I left the monster 800/5.6 at home and bring this 400 + TC20EIII and the venerable TC301. In pratice I did not observe any difference in performance from both the older and newer TCs!
The birds were ~13-14m away.
Went to the Farmers market in the neighborhood of my first home. It has been in continuous operation for over 96 years, and was founded on the site of an old brick factory. Many of the bricks were used for landfill in that neighborhood - I hard lesson I learned when attempting to turn the soil for my first garden. (hit a brick every shovelful) So, I walked the two blocks and purchased fresh vegetables there instead. They were much better than anything I could grow, and they were cheap. This market is 300-400 yards long, and covered most of the way by a permanent roof. It use to get a decent number of people (dozens - 100), but I was not prepared for the hordes there today. Literally 1000's of people - so many you could barely move. The streets were all clogged with cars trying to get to the market. The vendors were from all over the map, and they said it is like this every day now - Tuesday through Saturday. I did my usual ask and snap, but this time most the vendors thanked me for asking. Here is the north end 15-20% of the market...and some veg all at f1.4 with the 85mm again.
I have been wanting to get this shot and had to grab it before all the students return next week. Almost impossible to get the tunnel empty then. It would look like James’s first market shot up the page 😀
