How does the 55/1.2 fare against the 50/1.2?
I've only owned the 50/1.2...
From what we gathered here, by comparing images made with both lenses, side to side, the 50mm f1,2 is slightly sharper across the frame up to f2.
It also displays less rectilinear distortion.
Still, some prefer the 55mm f1,2 because of the more pleasant OoF rendering of subjects near the focal plane. The 50mm f1,2 tends to create some doubled lines/edges there where the 55mm f1,2 lenses seem to be almost completely free of that.
Personally I prefer and own the 55mm f1,2 and never had to complain about sharpness wide open
One of the fellows posting on this thread for a last few years, Ken B, came through town this afternoon with his partner. Ken contacted me a few weeks ago to see if I would be around, and I am... so we got together for an early evening meal and a lovely conversation about photography and life... that thing we do when not lifting a camera to our face... though photography surely is part of life for most of those who find their way to Fred Miranda.
Ken and I took a jaunt after dinner to see whether we could capture an evening shot of San Francisco over the Golden Gate bridge from Marin Headlands. Alas, as we drove toward the bridge I saw an extended bank of fog that was cascading over the hills of Sausalito. The Golden Gate and San Francisco were socked in, so I drove down into Fort Baker to see what the bridge looked like from the edge of the bay... pretty much like THIS...
This was shot with the 28 f/2 AI-s mounted on the Df. Since there wasn't much color in the scene I thought converting the image through Silver Efex Pro 2 made sense... I'm happy with the result.
Tomorrow we'll perhaps have another adventure before Ken and David head north to visit friends along the way back home in Portland. It is ALWAYS a pleasure to meet folks who've found a cyber home on this thread.

I hung out with Ken and David for a few hours in the middle of today and although we did more talking than photographing, we took a few portrait shots. Here is a photo of Ken as we sipped coffee outside a local Peet's shop near where I live. This was taken with the 55 f/1.2 S.C. AI and converted with Silver Efex Pro 2.
