It's been a busy three months for me. Lost my job the Monday before Christmas, and cast about for a new position. Had a temp one for private pay, while they told me to continue looking for work. Mail carrier in the meantime, told me about USPS needing help. Never considered applying cause I figured I wouldn't get enough points, but took the test anyhow. Passed the test and I did get to use deferred veterans points too. Interviewed the end of January, and things had been quiet. Interviewed at another place and got hired on. Person I'd been caring for passed away. Started new job, and this past Tuesday, I got an email with a conditional offer for USPS. Today, I got the phone call with a start date in April.

Quite a rollercoaster.
Good to hear you've got a new job.

Sounds like a good opportunity. Have a friend that is a carrier and loves it. She keeps a camera with her and does a lot of street photography. Might be a good thing for you. Congratulations!

Definitely sounds like a roller coaster, Laura! It's great to hear that, cat-like, you've landed on your feet. You strike me as the type of resourceful person who has done this sort of cat thing more than once in your life. Congratulations on your new career!
While I'm here, I think I'll post a couple of photos I shot a couple of weeks ago of my MFNG collection. The first image shows my Ai/Ai-s lenses (taken with the 24 f/2.8 NC on my wife's D7000), and the second image shows my pre-Ai lenses (taken with the 24 f/2.8 Ai-s on the D7000).

It must be because you've already pickled yourself with alcohol...
Understand Reagan... I only began this about four months ago... which means for about 76 years I ate meat, dairy, eggs and fish without giving it a second thought. I've no idea whether my new eating behavior will make a difference in my longevity or the status of my health. But from everything I've read, there seems to be benefit from cleaning up my act. Time will tell whether it really makes a difference. In the meantime, I'm not much invested in convincing others to do what I'm doing. You shoot at everything you want, sit in the sun and eat as much meat as you can Reagan. I hope you have a long, happy and healthy life...

Glad you found another paying gig Laura, but training to work in the medical field isn't easy. I'm sorry you couldn't find work that took advantage of that training. Good luck with your new job. Always wishing you the best.

Being as it's the Monsoon Season here we've had 24 inches of rain this week !
Fortunately I have a new bike that has been keeping me busy. It has been in a shed in Sydney for 3 years with an alarm problem so got it for half market value. Got it shipped the 2000 miles here in a truck, removed the alarm system and she's good to go !
2002 Yamaha R1. Can't believe how good vehicles last here. 16 years old ! In the Uk, road salt and grime take their toll on vehicles much quicker.
Thanks Glen, yes, I've gone through many job changes, mostly due to military moves over twenty years, always starting over in whatever new town we landed in. Hard work is no problem for me, for sure. During the interview, I got asked about carrying the weight, and I said should be no problem, considering the camera gear I carry

Thanks Curtis, but there's other reasons that folks leave the nursing field, too. I do plan to have some sort of PRN gig.

Except I’ve never been a huge meat eater. I always found that after the second mouthful of steak I lost interest, something that never happened with a well made salad. I expected the biggest challenge would be letting go of dairy and eggs. I’ve always loved cheese! But surprisingly, I’ve done fine with almond milk and there are fine substitutes for cheese. I don’t feel deprived at all. I love nutritional yeast and you’d be amazed what you can do with raw cashews! And as I said, I’m not fanatical about this. I expect I’ll have eggs tomorrow morning with Chin and we will have salmon for dinner. Life as a relaxed vegan is fine.
