Not much to shoot here in the winter, so it is usually gear acquisition time. To compliment my *new to me* Df, I bought a 20mm 2.5 and a 35mm f2 O lens on eBay today based on recs here. Since we are in the middle of a snow "event", I thought I would edit some shots I took at our MN state capital through my AI converted 24mm 2.8 that cost a whopping $77. Not my sharpest 24mm lens, or brightest, but still fun to play with.

I am seeing a lot more people commuting this way in Mpls, right in the heart of the city. I fear for their well being, not from going down on icy streets, but from drivers not looking for them or sliding into them.

If it was just drivers not looking... I've had people jump out of their cars/vans trying to beat me up for insisting on my right of way. One guy even pulled a knife waving it in the air, yelling at me to be thankful that he didn't kill me (running a red light), just because I yelled at him as he was about to flatten me with his uninsured and unregistered truck.

The fear of somebody texting and veering into the bike lane is always there, but cars pulling into your bike lane on purpose, then slamming on their brakes in front of you is actually are a more liely encounter. Those types of hostile moves are the normal state of commuting fun in a "bike-friendly" city in America. Just yesterday a car came up from behind, extra close, maybe 6 inches from me, windows rolled down and all passengers screaming at the top of their lungs hoping to scare me into a fall.

In my view, even in a "liberal town" like Madison WI, the density of idiots, jackasses, jerks, and selfish me-firsters per square mile is far too high for me to survive my commutes on a bike for much longer. 35,000 miles over the last 5 years will teach you some things about the character of the people around you. That is something like 120 days on the bike, 24 hours, so more or less a year worth of 8 hours riding per day. In those hours you meet people who are absolutely generous, want to make your day by being kind and safe, and then there are others who are filled with hate, rage, and anger and will see a cyclist in the road as the personification of all liberal evils that has made their lot in life what it is. Or they are just BMW driver who live to yell the F word at you a the to of their lungs... I could tell you so many stories.

I am actually going to mount a "dashcam" on my bike, because I am 100% certain there will be more incidents and I want proof of what happened, in case I survive. Falling because of snow and ice? I have full control over that and no worries. Getting plowed off the road because some Dodge RAM driver felt he could ignore a red light because he was bigger than me, that's where the real danger lies.

For a conservative town, the Dayton area has quite the bike trail collection...

People even bike their way to work on base here with no problems

Peter, I totally empathize. I’ve had people throw beer bottles at me from their pickup trucks while on a bike. A former boss was hit twice while commuting by bike causing a fractured pelvis one time and a broken neck the second. Luckily he wasn’t paralyzed but was in a cage-like contraption that held his head in one position for many months. I’ve been hit as a pedestrian twice, both times while in a crosswalk with a green light. Second time was hit-and-run. Lots of angry drivers out there for sure!

Hi Colin,

Got the Df back via UPS late yesterday. Not much of a chance to test because I had a function to go to last night. I just threw on a manual focus lens took a couple shots and put on an AF lens to test basic functions. Looks good. Hoping to have some time later today to give it a good once over. I have to go back in and reset all my custom menu options. Dummy me, I forgot to write them down before I sent it off

I did not get the old broken board back. I didn't think of asking for it.

George

Rafael - such a pity about your crash but very pleased that the airbags and presumably seat belt did their job. A car can always be replaced but you, my friend, cannot!
>>>>Thank you Peter! my first wife may not agree with you!
Glad you escaped injury, Rafael. Your contributions here have been really inspiring.
>>>>Thank you Ken, undeserved but welcome.
Glad to hear you came out in one piece. No other people in the car?
>>>>Chris, no-one else in the car, the sailors in the other four cars were not hurt either and the police declared no-one at fault.
+1
>>>>Leighton, Thanks! Jose, Gracias!
Great that you are all right! Thank goodness it wasn’t one of the Vettes.
>>>>Ken Hill - not to worry, the Vettes are safe at home.
Glad to hear you were not hurt in the accident, Rafael.
>>>>Thank you Ray!
Rafael - close call by the sound of things. Glad you were able to walk away.
>>>>Colin, never been in a true accident before, scary how quickly things happen and how it becomes out of control, nothing you can do.
Glad to hear your ok, sorry for the loss of your Pathfinder!

My newest chipped lens, probably the only one in the world.
There was not enough place for a proper Nikon cpu, so this one has a dandelion.
It took my friend quite some time on this one and he wrecked a few dandelions.
Very difficult to focus @1.2
The rendering is pretty smooth.

From today’s DP Review. So what’s their incentive to go mirrorless?

Nikon made a major sales announcement today, revealing that the company achieved the #1 spot in the full-frame camera market for December 2017. More specifically, the company "attained the #1 position for both market share and revenue for December 2017, in the full-frame digital camera with interchangeable lens (DCIL) category in the U.S." That DCIL term is what we refer to as just ILC here at DPReview, and yes, that includes full-frame mirrorless.

Thread´s been slowing down a bit again. Some really nice shots shared lately though.

Scott, nice 105mm shots. Really like that last one with the yellow flower.

Chris, nice kiddo shots with that PC-version.

Samy, really nice b/w shot with the 8.5cm. Love the b/w p.p too.

Jay, cool barn shots!

Peter, love that bike. Believe those tires are bad ass

José, awesome 105 macro shot. Love it!

Ray, nicely cropped 105 shot! Love that sunset shot too.

Peter, nice pano over the thunderstorm. Hope you´ll get some more rain down there.

shujert, beautiful baby shot!

Max, cool 24mm shot!

Ken, I really like that bridge shot. Nice mood.

Hien, great flower shots.

Chris, nice tulips with the 55/1.2. Very shallow depth of field, can imagine it´s hard to focus...

I have a question for you guys. With the change in billing policies last year at Photobucket, I decided to ditch them and in looking at BB friendly hosting solutions, I ended up at IMGBB. That are fine and free, although they have a 15mb limit which means I have to resize my 810 images to fit. (Df and Coolpix A are OK) I posted some images in this thread a few posts ago and I was surprised at how large they were displaying. Seems over the top and a hassle for you guys. I assumed that this site would somewhat resize them.

So for you guys that are posting images that seem to be a reasonable size, how are you doing it? BTW, I tried Flickr and I don't like it much. Thoughts and ideas welcomed.....
