More sunny pics on the way to Cape Tribulation. All with 20mm UD
First up near Ellis Beach, 5 mins up the road from home, backpackers make pebble towers here next to the Captain Cook Highway. You can just see Cape Trib on the horizon. Sea was flat as that day.
Thornton Beach. We stopped at the cafe here for lunch. There is a bench outside dedicated to a woman "taken" by a croc in 2016. Went for a swim off the beach with her friend at 10.30 at night.
Ohhh..so beautiful Andy! I remember it was kind of frustrating not being able to swim up there because of the jelly fish and crocodiles and what not...
Thanks George. Look forward to your post and it should be of interest to anyone using SD cards.
I don't care what Leighton says about you - you are a gentleman and a scholar!

George,
Any chance of a picture of the broken cards that might help we Df users to identify the problem before we suffer the same fate.
Thanks,
Jack
Jack,
Posting two pictures below.
First one shows the card with the broken corner (Red arrow) vs good card (Green arrow) The broken piece was lodged in the mechanism in the camera that moves to lock in and release the card.
The second shot shows how the layers separated and I suspect that the bottom layer got wedged into the contacts in the camera at the same time. I inserted a paperclip in the picture just to show the separation.
I found one other card of mine that had the same separation but not yet chipped in the corner. So that has me thinking the separation happened first and was not caused by the chipped corner.
Both were SanDisk UltraPLUS.
Shipped the Df off for repair this afternoon. Will let y'all know the final outcome once I get it back.
Thanks for the heads up George. Did you send the camera to APS or Nikon? Did you have a conversation with anyone about what happened and how it might be resolved? I guess those of us shooting with the Df are interested in this topic. I recall when I was considering the Df and asking questions on the thread, mentioning an interest in a leather case. I think it was Mark A who noted the way the card is inserted is awkward and the leather case might exacerbate the issue. I did buy the camera but never got the case. It is a bit tight inserting the card but up until now I've not had a problem. Your post definitely has me taking a closer look at my SD cards. I appreciate that.

When I bought my D810 B&H sent me a free Sandisk SD card, and that was my 1st SD.
Turns out it destroyed my Sandisk card reader! Though I thought I was being careful it bent contacts in the reader, the card is fine!
I thought CF cards were problematic!

George,
Thanks so much for taking the time to take those fine detailed pictures. As I expected they are generating interest and not only for Df users.
Best,
Jack

Hi Curtis. After calling around to a couple different places (don't get me started about my conversation or lack thereof with Nikon in NY), I decided on using Camera Service Company in Georgia. Authorized Nikon Center and use Nikon parts. Very courteous over the phone. Will call me when they receive it and will give me details about the repair once they look at it (given what I saw when I looked at it, hoping they just replace the whole SD slot component). They said they did not have a huge backlog. Estimated 7 - 10 days may be a couple days longer if they had to order a part.
Yes, the location of the SD slot on the Df is in a very tight spot, especially if you have large fingers
I have been using this camera since the week it was released in 2013 and this is the only issue I have had with it. So no complaints on that end. Especially considering how many times I have probably inserted and removed a card over 4+years. Will just be a little more gentle and look closer at the cards more often.

Oh no - what a pain - all for a little bit of broken plastic. Hopefully this is a simple debris clearance fix otherwise the SD card mechanism will need to be de-soldered from the motherboard and replaced.
For some odd reason, the crowds got excited when wetsuit guy came to scrape off the algae from the tank wall; kids were ooh-aahing, strollers like battering rams pushing through, adults gesticulating wildly, giving the whole arm-waving come-here-look-at-this to other members in their party
From afar, I was intrigued too and joined the throngs of tourists gravitating towards this glow from around the corner
Was totally not expecting this...
*I managed to borrow a dremel from a friend and just shaved off the extra mm or so from my FujiX-to-NikonF adapter. Seems okay now. Taken with the 24/2AI + X-T20
George,
I have a Df and love it despite the effort it takes to free the SD card since I have a grip on the camera body.
The reason for this post is a lingering fear that I have of “knock off” or more plainly speaking counterfeit SD cards as well as other components often seen on Amazon or eBay. Some deals set off alarms because they sell at bargain prices. Not saying yours is one of those but these “knock offs” do exist.
A lot of stuff out there is bogus and nearly impossible to tell.
