O K I ' ll type slow to match the pace of the t h r e a d!

Rafael brilliant use of the turtles. Sorry about the 800mm lens. Perhaps Curtis is correct that it does go on forever. PS How is Abe doing?

Jose you continue to impress with the wonderful birding captures.

Cgrill welcome you'll love the Df with manual lenses.

Jay your reflection shots put me in mind of the day we had at the Hillsborough river with Ray. I've got to look those shots up.

Here's the last of the auto show ....

Great work again with the birds Jose!

Rafael, too bad about the 800 but with your persistence I am sure you will find a better sample.

Architectural work after a while. F2SB, 35 2.8 PC-Nikkor, with the very slow Adox CMS 20 film.

f/8 or f/11, and shutter somewhere between 1/30s- 1/125s on a tripod, this one may have been the 1/30s possibly looking at the other couple shots of the same building.

180mm f/2.8 ED on D810, and a shot I didn't bother to edit this summer until I needed a test image for my new 4K monitor. Turns out this is in Flickr Explore today. Only the flickr bot knows why

Those who have followed this thread for awhile may remember me chiming in about the mixed results with the 35-105/3.5-4.5 AI-s. My complaint has been that the corners are dreadful at 105mm and infinity focus. Closer focus or shorter focal lengths give good to outstanding results depending on focal length, aperture, and focal distance. The build quality of the lens is very good. An added bonus is the macro-focusing capability, and the image quality there is good though certainly not in the same league as the Micro-Nikkors. I originally purchased mine as a hiking/backpacking lens to use with Nikkormat and FM2 film bodies, and results seemed to be better on film than subsequently on digital.

Walinking around today, I ended up in the Chinese Garden again with the lens and D700 in tow. While the following shots are not outstanding pictures, they demonstrate that it is possible to get acceptable images with this lens when used within its limitations.

And here's a 100% crop from the corner at f/8 to show how the mushiness. Anything wider is really bad. By f/11 it's starting to get useable.

If you're seeking a supertele, a late Nikkor 600/5.6 AI-S is listed on FM and it looks like a beauty. Has the usual tank-like build of its era. Killer price, with case included. Don't know the seller, I just want someone here to buy it.

So many pages to go through, so many great shots. I´ve hardly been shooting at all with my MF-lenses. I do have a few shots taken with the 25-50 f/4 ais though. Nothing extraordinary, but it´s always something.

A slice of the countryside. The little hill is an old grave dating from the bronze age.

I guess this lens can be quite nice for up-close at 50mm. Would like to try it with extensions as well.

I actually took some photos!

Friends welcomed a new member to their family and because they so loved the photos I took following the birth of their first child, they invited Sue and me to come for a visit... WITH my camera and an assortment of lenses. I took over 550 photos during our three hour visit and ended up dropping 114 processing images in an album. I guess I caught the bug that likely has infested Leighton with this growing brood of grandbabies. Amazingly, I was able to take all these photos with a manual focus lens... Fortunately, the young boy wasn't doing a great deal of running around or I would have been in trouble. I got more photos like this... a two week old little girl isn't ready for that quite yet.

This was shot with the 55 f/1.2 S.C. AI and converted in Silver Efex Pro 2.

I guess you can accurately call that "throwing money down the drain..."

I'm waiting for my landlady to give me notice that my rent is about to take a big jump. She had to replace the sewer line a couple of years ago, then last year had to replace one wall that had been infested by bad bugs and rain water, then replaced the refrigerator, gas stove and finally the wall heater in the living room. I think owning property guarantees that you'll be spending money for something. But I also know that OWNING is preferable IF the market allows normal people to buy. Unfortunately, where I live I'd need to win a large lottery to become a homeowner. I'm not counting on it...

Sorry about the lens Laura, I know you could take great advantage of something this long...

Anyone with good things to say about the 24/2? Looks like it's a small weight and size penalty over the 2.8.

George, our long lost friend from Germany enjoyed shooting with the 24 f/2 but I never warmed to it, especially after purchasing a pre-AI converted lens, the 24 f/2.8 N.C. AI. Here's a photo from the E-Bay ad for the lens I bought for the remarkable price of $104.49, including shipping.

I'm not certain the premium you'd pay for the faster lens would really give you much. But others may chime in as well, though the thread seems to be crawling at the moment... Good luck sorting it out Chin. I promise I'll refrain from repeating our "motto"...

Hey, I can truly empathize. I had to drop nearly $10K on a sewer line a couple of years ago. I guess I should console myself that it is a proven effective treatment for MF-acquisition syndrome.

So once you were "flush" and now you CAN...

Sorry about that Ken, I couldn't resist.

Love what you've been sharing on the board... even though I've been away more than I've been carousing with the usual suspects. Always nice to know I can wander back and find some good work being done with a wide assortment of lenses, even the more pedestrian zoom lenses...

I really like the 24 NC as well, it just has a certain something about the character of its photos.
