Most of my glass came from Japan, by far better deals nd usually in better condition. I have had good luck the few times I picked up stuff from KEH as well.

Same here. Not most of my lenses came from Japan, ~20%, all of them in "Rafael's like condition".
The major lens nightmares I had were from...Brazil!

Wow Rafael! Congrats! Another "Rafael-like" condition lens!
When you get tired of this monster, let me know, since I would love to replace my battered copy
A suggestion: I replaced the factory tripod collar with the alternative from Wimberley - not only the centre of gravity is far easier to get but also you get a built in arca-swiss plate! Not to say you save some weight
Wow, no customs taxes!
Here in Brazil I would be charged by 60% (federal) + 18% (state) taxes...not on the lens price but lens + shipping grandtotal
I suppose even North Korea is a less closed economy than Brazil ...Show more →
Jose, your copy may not be as mint cosmetically but it may be somewhat better optically. I have some experience with the 400mm 3.5 and 600mm 5.6, this 800mm 5.6 is better than both.

Last with 25-50/4 on Df. Salt Creek Falls—286 feet drop. It was recently demoted from 2nd to 3rd tallest waterfall in Oregon when Watson Falls was remeasured and found to be taller.
I've been browsing photosynthesis looking for something to buy; might have been bitten by the weekend sales bug, something something kitbuildingforever *cough cough*.
Anyone with good things to say about the 24/2? Looks like it's a small weight and size penalty over the 2.8.
So, after my technical evaluation came to the conclusion that the shadow on the left bottom corner of the 800mm 5.6 was so mild that I should keep the lens, my emotional evaluation was that I do not want to deal with any issues.

This lens is going back as defective.
What a pity Rafael! Sure this occurs in all of your Nikon FX bodies?
Hope you manage to find another impeccable copy.
