Glen, love the heron posing in front of the mountainous backdrop.
Samy, the only people who say "Lake Geneva" are the Brits and the Genevans...
All the other (who are not anti-european or chauvinistic) call it "Léman" or "Lac Léman".
Indeed the word "Léman" comes from the ancient Greek "Limne" which means "lake". At the Gallo-Roman times the lake was called "Lacus Lemanus" and obviously we say "Lac Léman" now ( or "Le Léman" for the purists who know ancient Greek)...

Scott, hadn't seen much from your side recently. Love the clouds and colors!!!
Thank you Samy. Have been quite busy of late. The colors and clouds in the sunset were amazing. I was fortunate to catch it. The mosquitoes were thick!

Ben, must be plenty warm in Sydney
Philippe the first image of the Jet d'Eau is fantastic!
Kristian, peaceful scenes in the countryside.
Colin, lots of stuff going on in the windows, including the Practica SLR, the model and is that you in the blue jeans?
theotherKav, very nice pics from the base in Afghanistan. What lens is that. There's a Nikon 200 5.6 Medical-Nikkor. I haven't come across a 210 5.6 though.

Thanks! The 210mm is a large format film lens. Those photos were all shot with a Sinar F2 4x5 camera. here's what the lens looks like:
I keep seeing these awesome LF Nikkors around for great prices - if only there was a true 4x5 digital back that one could afford and be able to lug into the mountains.

Philippe, I stand corrected. I will be using the term Le Lac Leman from here on
no, no, no Samy, don't give in to him like that. Make him earn it - if he can.
Yes, the French call it Lac Léman but it's not a French lake, it's mostly Swiss - so the Genevans have every right to call it Lake Geneva. And yes, it was known as Lac Lemanus by the Romans - but from at least the 16th century it was also known as Lac de Genève, even by the French.
The funniest part of all of this is Philippe claiming chauvinism by the Swiss - ha ha, that really made my day. I'd pump for Lake Geneva - after all, Geneva is from the Roman - so you know you can't go wrong.
Last few weeks have been depressing at work with no room for any pictures, but have visited the thread in between, enjoyed the Conversations and the Pictures...Keep 'em coming!!
My daughter's school sent her class mascot Nellie home to spend this weekend with us. Nikon Df & 85 f/1.4 wide open.

In honor of all things old I purchased a "working" Sekonic light meter, the L-VI. I paid $11.00 making my S2 investment $250.00 Now it's time for me to step into the "50's"
My dad had one just like that. I have no idea what happened to it. It wasn't with his old Pentax that I got when my mother died.
A little off subject here but I am getting a new roof because of the Hurricane
and I am quickly trying to learn about roofing
Anyone with any experience in roofing or someone who has had one replaced recently
I would appreciate a PM
