Ken, delighted that you sustained so little damage. Ingrid's brother lives in Land of lakes and while we haven't heard since Sunday - no news is good news!
Stay well.
Peter,
Land o Lakes is north of Tampa which was west of the "eye" and spared from the earlier projections for that area. They may be without electricity - but wind damage and flooding should be minimal. Wishing them the best of luck. /K
Hoping everybody in Florida made it through with minimal damage. Here in the rainy Pacific Northwest it’s been anything but—just blisteringly hot and dry. It’s the worst wildfire season in the 60 years I’ve lived here. The only advantage has been that the tomatoes are ripening early. Frequently they’re still green when the autumn rains start.
Yesterday’s harvest with the 50/1.4 AI-s at f/5.6 on Df.
Kristina and I are also very glad everyone made it through without a problem. We have some wind and rain here, but nothing you guys had to deal with, so with that in mind, we just packed our gear and went out to enjoy those few rays of sunshine, in the hopes of distracting you guys a bit from cleaning up the mess Irma left. My stephmother is called Irma, and somehow the news headlines really made me think back of the days where I still lived at my fathers place. Especially when she handled a vacuumcleaner
Picked up a Nikon 50mm 1.2 and a 18mm 3.5 a week ago from my local dealer. Using them on my DF for the most part. Just getting my feet wet a bit and playing around but I brought them both to a wedding over the weekend and they saw action. So much fun to use and I'm loving the output.

A few quick grabs from the 50:
Welcome Frank. I think you're gonna love shooting with these old lenses. Your first pics to share are very nice. I had the 50/1.2...great lens! The sweet spot is at f2, super sharp from there.

Thanks! You are dead on about f2. It's amazing how fast it sharpens up after 1.4. Having said that 1.2 is more than usable and gives me that look I want now and then at a wedding. I'm mostly in shock however about how stinking great the build quality (and size) is compared to my modern lenses. Amazing. That focus ring... So nice.
It was a toss up whether I wanted the 50 1.2 or the Voigtlander 58 1.4 ... my dealer had the Nikon in stock... decision made easier lol. The voigt looks awesome though. Optically superior but it isn't what I was going for so it was less a concern.

Be careful, this can be habit forming
If you like fast and wide open, you will also want to look into the manual focus versions of 35/1.4, 85/1.4, 105 (any version of f/2.5 or the 1.8) Also the 135/2.

And +1 on the Welcome.

Yes, if I'm being honest this is a developing obsession. Thanks for the lens tips. I do like fast and wide open but it isn't how I shoot everything. Out of the ones you mentioned I have been on the look out for a nice 105 or 135. 135 makes the most sense I think as I have a 85 1.4 (AF) currently.

One thing to note on the 135. The Ai version has a longer focus throw than the Ai-S, but the built in hood is shorter and not really effective in strong light. I have the Ai version because of the focus throw but mainly use it for video.
Thankfully it went west and diminished quickly. I see where there are power outages in the western part of the state, but nothing here. Little rain and little wind.
