Unfortunately or fortunately depending on perspective, with my hearing, I would be wasting money on audio gear. So it goes to bikes and camera gear

Beautiful camera George. As the "regular" camera market is saturated and volumes are declining (or at least stagnating), and there are no new technologies to really push the art of digital capture forward much that would capture a broad market, I wonder if the players will try to move forward more in niche markets (higher end of course to make lower volumes work) and actually make something like this. I mean, does Leica have 100% of the low volume, high cost market, or can someone else play there? Is there a market between the Leica market and mainstream MILC to fit your digital Bessa-R2S in?

Thanks Ross. Actually have a photographer buddy of mine to thank for that, he shared a shot with a neat ice pattern that prompted me to head out in the cold and brown to explore. This next shot with the sun a little higher in the sky, same 28mm f2.0 AIS.

Pixii is the only other digital rangefinder that I am aware of and it is Leica M mount. And with their prices you can get a solid Leica M240 for less.

I don't count the Fuji X-Pro cameras. While nice, they are neither true rangefinders nor 35mm sensors. I tried an XPro years ago with the adapted Nikkor rangefinder lenses but you lose so much lens character with the sensor crop. Let me clarify, that the native Fuji lenses rock. I am specifically talking about adapting or using rangefinder glass that was made for 35mm.

For me it really would not have to be rangefinder coupled, but just having the full size sensor with the optical viewfinder/hybrid. Native Z lenses as standard and the adapters for the rangefinder lenses (either Leica M or Nikkor S) are thin enough to not feel awkward like the FTZ does for adapting the F lenses. *my personal opinion of course.

Does not have to be a megapixel monster either. Lower resolution, fat pixels for light gathering.

Nice to think about anyway.

Considered getting rid of the 300mm f2.8 ais (+TC-16A) again - nope! Not when it does this well.

I’d love a good compact mirrorless but I’ve found I’m not a huge fan of the optical finder. I like seeing the WYSIWYG EVF.

First advection fog of the spring. Love these days. K Mount 28mm f/2. Really liking its draw so far.

Barb says I have to dust the entertainment centers before taking any pictures. After 45 + years, 7 kids, and 5 grand kids they are kind of encrusted in hand and finger crud + a thick coat of dust. Built into the base of each entertainment center are three way speakers I built in the late 1970s. 15" dual cone woofers, 3x9 mid-range horns, two types of tweeters, 10" sub-woofers come out the sides and are aimed at the floor, an air port, insulation, and pricey cross-overs round it out. Here is the front of one speaker. D850 with the 50mm f1.2 ais with me on the floor among dozens of kids toys, and cat furniture.

Beautiful Matt. Fog makes landmarks fade, landscapes new, and more intimate. I love the fog.

Very cool! I inherited the stereo that my dad bought the day I was born (Marantz 2015, had it restored in 2023), my dads turntable he bought in 1984 (a Pioneer PL88FS tray loading that I was able to restore myself), and his record collection. He had bought a set of JBL L100 speakers, but a rusty water heater destroyed those. I happened to be taking out the garbage early one morning on my way to work and a very dirty pair of JBL 4312C’s were sitting by the dumpster. I tossed them in my car and prayed that my dad’s spirit had “saved them for me.” I cleaned them up and found them in excellent condition under decades of dust. I slowly brought them up to volume and after a few hours of play (and one day of white noise at maybe 30db) they sound excellent. My youngest daughter and I listen to them a couple nights a week. She has a couple records of her own. I got my wife into the hobby as well and I built her a small stereo system with a turntable as well.

Dear Keypals,

I have a PC-Nikkor 35mm f/2.8 tilt lens.
Can you explain what is the second ring for - I’m not sure about. Rotating it makes the viewfinder look brighter or darker.
I've never used tilt function.
Thanks!

Hi, everyone:

Ray, excellent winter landscape photographs. The black and white interior photos are also excellent.

Matt, great misty photographs.

OffTrail, that is a beautiful pair of pups, great shots.

James , great work on building the speakers.. Mine are a tad smaller.

Rafael, super nice captures with the circular fisheye. I could have used any in your collection at the Pantheon.

Ross, the Death Valley panorama is excellent.

The Pantheon, Rome:

This is perhaps the first photo taken of the completed project with a non pinhole sensor camera, most certainly with a 1970s era Nikkor fisheye. The work materials and coverings had just been removed.

The massive bronze doors date to the 5th century. They are 7 meters in height and weigh approximately 20 tons.

Thanks to the Jubilee 2025 restorations, the crowd levels were low. At center is the tomb of the great Raphael.

Thanks Jim, Kevin and Serge. I love shooting in fog, it can be touch to capture its spirit. A couple more obligatory pier pictures.

Serge, lovely interiors of the Pantheon.

Matt, great capture of the pier in a moody setting. I really like the contrast between the fog and the crisp reflections in the water. Nicely seen.

Nothing special today, just more snow falling. Playing with the 180 f2.8 Ais. Thanks for looking.

The lens is a pre-set one, it means that the diaphragm does not stay always wide open and stop down to the set aperture just before the shot, but it stay at the value set on the second (from the front of the lens) thin ring.

The first (from the front of the lens) thin ring is an aperture limiter, it means that if it is set to f/8 the second ring can go from fully open to f/8.

This is to allow you to set the desired aperture on the first ring, than to move the second ring from the wide open aperture (that is supposed the aperture you want to use in order to have a brighter view and focus more easily) and than set the desired aperture moving the second ring quickly to the mechanic stop of the aperture limiter just before the shot, so you don't have to count the step or look at the aperture scale.

Hope that is clear.

That second shot is definitely a fog highlight!

It's look great down to the screwhead orientation (all but one!). Was this a kit speaker drivers build with a kit crossover (the driver combination looks very diverse), in your own cabinet, or is the entire thing a Jim invention?

I'd be very proud of that second "playing shot" Scott. Love that OOF tree in the background against the snowflakes.
