Ok, the big D decided to smack me upside the head, and I've finally admitted to myself that I have it.
I've done nothing but eat sleep work since the pandemic, and just when I thought I would finally stop working 50+ hours a week, one of the crew bid to another station, so I was still working close to 60 hours a week. I still haven't worked on my Bosque del Apache photos from February
Back's been bothering me a lot, having to walk with a cane didn't help with the big D. Work won't let me use the cane, so I'm staggering around clutching equipment here and there.
Back isn't going to be getting better on its own, discs are unstable, and wander from time to time. I've decided, even without a second opinion from another doc, that I'm going to have to have the fusion surgery done. It also involves rods, screws, and cages to stabilize the spine so that the nerve bundle will have room, and the numbness, tingling, and pain might be resolved.
The one bid at work was up on the last bid cycle, now we wait to see who got it, hopefully someone who works, and shows up for work.
Enough of the pity party for me.

It is good to have you back Laura. Sorry to hear about the circumstances and illness, but hang in there. So happy to hear your decisions to take care of your body, heart, and mind.

Thought I would give you an update on my XT5 saga. I received it from B&H in 4 different shipments. But once it got here, I honestly wasn’t impressed with how it felt. Maybe I have been with the XT2 and XE1 for so long that I’m used to the magnesium frame and the sturdy feel of the bodies. The XT5 I got felt very light and, even though I know it’s aluminum, it felt plasticy. I took it out and put it through its paces around the house and on picture #3, it just stopped working. Tried both batteries and troubleshooting I found online…nothing. The two shots weren’t even recoverable. The card was completely corrupted. I put the card into my XT2, formatted it, worked just fine. So, I’m going to return it. I’m not sure what I’m going to do next. ...Show more →
That's disappointing Kevin. Most likely a one off, if that's the camera you want I'd say keep trying. I thought the same going from the D800/D700 to mirrorless, but I've adapted now and actually enjoy the lighter feel of MILC.

One of my cats I rescued from the animal shelter in 2007 when she was one year old. A tiny black cat I named Ciara. In December of 2022 I brought her to the vet, because of rapid weight loss. He confirmed what I suspected that she had renal failure. He thought she had about two weeks to live. I decided to just make her comfortable until her health made life unpleasant for her. Every morning she sat on my lap watching intently the news (she loved PBS Nature shows), while I ate my toast drinking coffee - purring the entire time. Somehow she escaped the house 3 times in the last 20 months, but she yowled at the door to get back in. I think they were practice runs. August 20th of this year was the same as all the others. Watch news purring on my lap with breakfast & some kitty treats. By lunch I noticed she was nowhere to be found. I looked everywhere inside and out - no sign of her. Apparently that was her good-bye before she sneaked out to lay down for the last time. The cat pecking order has been reshuffled since the 2-3 pound 18 year old queen went missing.

Sorry to hear James. 12 years is a long time to have the cat just say goodbye, but perhaps that's just her way of sparing you the final days.

Fog! I like it.
Thanks Siphiwe. Fall is the start of fog season :-) and I must do my best to keep the fog postings low, or at least find unique settings.

Love the coolness of this.
Thanks Leighton. In film days I got caught up a lot with Velvia and "warming" filters to get the light back to the "correct" temperature for the film. With digital it's so much easier to maintain the "feel" of a scene when I can chimp the overall tone and temperature on the screen to compare if I was close to what I was seeing at the moment. I have to give kudos to Nikon, when I use Auto WB it manages to get it right quite often.
