Good work on IR converting that D7100 ! Can you tell me does the camera sole plate remove easily and without having to detach any cables/ribbons ? Looking to replace my D800 one (you can get replacements on ebay for < $30 or $100 for genuine one). I was going to paint mine but if it's easy to remove/replace then I might do that.
It's only because the paint has worn off but it bugs me !

Andy,
OCD?
Fortunately for you Lifepixel also have a D800 deconstruction.
You might need to remove a the lower side screws in step 3 but I would not expect to see any cables on the bottom plate. Go lightly. If something doesn't come apart with gentle force then there will be a hidden screw somewhere or another plastic surface holding the bottom plate in position.
Be careful with those screw heads. I nearly stripped the second screw I was removing because I foolishly didn't use my JIS set. Vessel TD-56 size 00 worked great.

It's great to shoot with her again. Don't worry, she has permanent bag status like the 50-135mm, plus I couldn't do that after Ben was so generous in giving her to me.
I can't believe it's been 7 years! Can you imagine a newbie trying to read through it?
I doubt that will ever happen again not only because of the length but also because so many photos have disappeared. Of course, you would likely agree with me Leighton that the last few years have seen a dramatic improvement in the quality of photos posted. The combination of attracting some really fine photographers with the improved skill level of those of us who've been around for the long haul has worked its magic. Now browsing these pages is at once an education and a great pleasure. Photos are first rate and the repartee is always a delight. Of course, the friendships formed make this thread even more to appreciate.
I obviously was pulling your leg about letting Nikki go. I know she is a keeper with great sentimental value. Amazing to realize that our great lens adventure began over five years ago. Thanks so much for keeping the blog current. I hope folks who haven't gone through it will do so. Those were rather magical months on the thread.
I'm reflecting a bit about how to mark the anniversary on Tuesday. I have so many lenses now that I don't have a large enough surface in my cottage to display them all, at least without stacking. If anyone has suggestions about how to mark the occasion I'd certainly welcome them... though it will likely be quite a letdown following the eclipse. I expect we'll have quite a few photos to mark that momentous occasion. Whatever... as they say "any day above ground is a good day," so perhaps simply being able to visit the site is celebration enough for ANY day...

Philippe - you have a lovely daughter and well photographed. However, these pictures bring home to me how I have aged on this thread!! She was a "little" girl and suddenly she is a beautiful young woman.
John Hinkey, please don't post pics of your girls. I already know how I've aged

I resemble that remark...
A friend sent photos yesterday of her two grandchildren. I wrote back recalling we'd met 31 years ago when the father of these young sprites was himself 7 years old. His son turned five years old yesterday. Amazing how times slips past us. No doubt participating on a photography website that encourages sharing of family photos we have reminders of time passing. I think about John's girls and Chuong's beautiful family... Alan Hudson's brood in Texas and now Chin's son who is learning to walk. Quite an honor to share these life experiences, even at the price of getting older myself. Next month I'll celebrate my 76th birthday. Hopefully, I'll have a few more...
All the best Peter. You've been a good friend to the thread.

An Eclipse question
If the sun rises in the East
Why does the Eclipse begin in the West and head East

If you think about it Reagan, the eclipse is merely a few moments in time when the moon transits the face of the sun casting a shadow on the earth. That happens while the sun appears at different places which each has its local time. The eclipse doesn't move across the country with the sun. The graphics shown in the media are misleading since they suggest the eclipse moves across the country. The truth is simply it appears at a few minutes in time that happen to be different times at different places. That is how I've come to understand it all...

Peter - I know what you mean, Ben and Leighton keep telling me I am getting old (Ben even called me a wimp...) :-)
But I feel like that man I met a long time ago - he was both a mountain shepherd and a old sage. He said : "I have been working to become a young man for the last 75 years". And he added with a malicious smile on his face : " I enter into the age of childishness now".

And for those of you complaining about feeling old... my oldest granddaughter will be 19 this year, and graduated high school. My younger granddaughter was 3 when this thread started... this is her playing footbal (soccer here in the US) at ten years old.

Speaking of our lens adventure, where's Nikko?
Nikko came home for repairs (not because of damage but the shift knob/gear mechanism was loose) and for me to take on vacation. I guess we can do a round two if anyone is still interested.
