Well its been over a week since I've posted since my bride has had the flooring in our house removed after twenty-five years. Tile, carpet now all gone and replaced with wood. Did not enjoy the mess but the floor is nice and after what she has put up with me on the mend .... deserves it.
Couple of comments from seeing the thread from an iPad in the past week.
Samy what a great capture of the market, done in B&W but captures the moment exactly.
Ben I'm confused at the acceptance of an imperfect shadow in Oz but the insistence of perfection in Provence. Confounding people ALWAYS highlight Philippe's photos.
Andy the snap of the sunset of set by the car is perfection.
Billy the rocks piled in Hawaii bear resemblance to the shot I am posting today taken on Lake Superior ... Coincidence?
Kristian I am posting a shot of a stone face that lives in the rocks on the shores of Lake Superior. Sculptured in 1820 and without protection from the public since then it still survives. ...Show more →
There is something special and magic about old stone carvings. Nice shots Ken!
Due to lack of opportunity to shoot, I've been reprocessing some pictures lately, as I consider Capture One a better raw converter than Nikon Capture NX2 (that I used and liked a lot), especially in the shadows/highlight recovery department.
I realized how good is still the D700 and how little demanding about lens sharpness.
I've just reprocessed some pictures of my 2011 travel in Sri Lanka and I like to share some pictures of Galle Face Hotel in Colombo, it's a beautiful and very charming colonial era hotel facing the Indian ocean.
Not for people looking for luxury but in my opinion to stay at the GFH it's a really unique experience for a very reasonable price.
Hello from South India. I recently did a travel to south western coastal areas in Karnataka. Here is an image from Malpe, Karnataka which is 300 kms from Goa.
This is of the coast of Arabian Ocean and the shot was taken from the light house. The boulder that you see on the left is so huge as you can probably make out if you size it to the large coconut trees on the right. The 20mm makes it looks small.

Ben those Benz shots are beautiful.
More from the market in Nyons
Sony A7s & 50/1.8ais
This is a different crop of the torrone shot - we get to see more of the torrone - of course I appreciate that and my mouth is watering, but I also think it's a better composition this way having those piles of torrone under him.
Are you doing something to the colour? Seeing these shots together they seem to have a low saturation look with a warm cast.

Yes I made this different crop for you as I know that you like the nougat. Actually I prefer the original crop which focuses on the vendor's face (I love his expression).
I used one of my usual profiles/presets with low saturation and warm cast indeed.

Of course I don't know Provence better than you. I've never been there. Nor do I know that woman sitting on the wall but I venture to guess that was not her most flattering pose.
In all the years I've followed you I've seen lots of your holiday pics. I well remember pictures of castles, villages, fields, mountains, lakes. OK, I obviously need to adjust my expectations. It's not your fault that I have preconceptions about holidays in Provence - you've clearly opted on a grittier approach and I applaud you!.......keep em coming ....
Now if Reagan would only go to Provence.....Cannes....Nice, we'd get a different eyeful
I have to go to a party right now. I'll be tomorrow with some samples. Thanks Ben!!!
Ben - such an amazing gesture. Good on ya' mate (as they would say in your neck of the world)
Leighton - 5 years on and Nikki looks the same. Testimony to the care we give these chunks of metal and glass. Amazing side by side comparison. Different seasons, but you can see the trees have grown in the intervening period. Let's see some pictures....
Don't have a lot of time, lot's to do for the market. But I couldn't resist sharing a few from Nikki. I remember now why I liked her so much. I'll also say I owned the highly regarded Fuji 90mm f2 and Nikki holds her own to it!
Thanks for the likes and comments on what I posted!
Peter, yes the colors from the D500 are very good and in fact remind me of the D200 which I still think is great in this day and age. Thanks for noticing.
Kristian the faces are something from our history and are very neat indeed.
Philippe great market shots. I see Nyon .... Switzerland?
Lester the blue series is fantastic. The red bull can within the blue ... outstanding!
Ben terrific gesture on your part with Leighton. Nice coloring on the old timer sitting!
Leighton I see you've made good use of it already. Looking forward to more!
Scott always love the canal shots.
Peter great glimpse of the "4 car", my favorite at Road America.
Today are some from the old ore dock in Marquette and a heavily cropped shot of "Old Ish" in Ishpeming, Michigan.
