Ok Ray, I must have missed something. What loaner?
A few pages back I was wondering aloud about the 35-200 zoom, and a generous participant in our corner of the web sent me his 35-200 to try out. Only one outing thus far (between work and quality of light). Here's a couple with a window theme.
Jay,
WHAT A FIND! Every part of these are jam packed with great details. I assume the asymmetrical door is on the side of the same house? I love it!
Jim
Just touching base, I'm staying in the Abel Tasman NP for 3 days.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone ! Congrats to the US men's soccer team on their draw with England, the decider to get out of the group with Iran should be worth watching.
Leighton's right, would recognise your rendering anywhere George, lovely shot of the falls and nice to see ya, I thought you'd be taller but I guess that's why they chose you for submarines? jk
Usual patchy internet here, hot spotting my phone to my laptop, data limits etc. so I'll drop a few more
Marokopa Falls. Lots of rain, moisture in the air and windy. The viewing platform was still there but the base is down by the river.
Flew the drone around while I was there (my youtube - )
Angle of view! I am 6’. That is my story and I am sticking to it
Also, now that is a waterfall! Not much flow in the ones around here. But not sure I would want to see that much water coming over the ones I have been visiting.

Thanks Jim, you are correct, this is one house.
The town is full of these. I'm conflicted and feel heartbroken at the sad conditions and imagined lives of the people, yet strangely excited at the visual prospects.
In addition to the unique buildings, there was almost no one seen.
One youth asked me for spare change. A fellow driving a pickup pulled over and asked me why I was taking pictures of his house. I told him I liked the way it looked, and he broke into a huge smile.
On the topic of borrowed/loaner lenses, I had the opportunity to take the 100mm Series E with me on my trip thanks to a loaner
I wanted to see how it would do as a backpacking/hiking lens in that focal length. It is physically smaller and a little more than half the weight of the 105mm/2.5 Ais lens. When coupled with the FTZ II it is still not a heavy combo on the Z7II. I have been using a Peak Design Capture Clip system to carry my camera body attached to the shoulder strap of my backpack. For me this is much more comfortable vs a strap hanging around your neck or cross body when also wearing a backpack.
The Series E is a challenging lens to shoot and you have to have the right light combination for it to shine. Really have to watch for lens flare wide open and it has really really strong CA in high contrast scenes especially with dark edges against bright backlight. It is somewhat correctable in post processing but really have to stop down a lot to limit it.
That said, if your goal is black and white photography, the CA does not really matter. I may add one to my kit just for that. But for the most part, I will take the 7 oz weight penalty and carry the 105/2.5.
Regarding the other Series E lenses... The 75-150 zoom is fun to shoot and is a sleeper lens in my opinion. The 50mm/1.8 is a very good lens as well. One that I have had since the 80s and love to shoot with film. And as Matt said a couple pages back regarding the 28mm... Well just move along, much better options all around for that focal length
Below are two from the trail with the 100mm. Raining today, so may not shoot more before packing them up and sending back to the owner.
I finally shot some stuff last night for an event. Brought the 55 f/1.2 SC Auto with me, and a 5.8cm f/1.4. Getting ready to dive into the hundreds of photos I shot, mostly auto focus with the 70-200 VRII lens though.
Jay,
It tells a story for sure. At one time someone was proudly maintaining the house looking to every detail, but then something happened. Soon the "make do" kicks in, because of limited choices. It reminds me of different times in my own life.

Serge, that Madrid Christmas lights shot is wonderful.
George, that second shot with the 100E is expertly crafted! Ditto the mid-day, harsh lighting (I assume) waterfall shot with the Hassy.
James, enjoyed the fisheye effect of the second shot with the top-lit trees.
Scott, beautifully done blue hour of the Narrows Bridge.
Jay, good photographs, but I have to confess seeing the conditions in Deming makes me sad. House #801 looks like there are still some trying hard to make things look good.
Andy, I continue to enjoy the tour through NZ immensely!

Technically not a Nikon lens, but the CV APO-Skopar 90mm might be worth a look - similar size & weight as the Series E 100mm but should be sharper & with less CA Considering one myself but torn between F mount and M mount..
Thanks! I will give that a look. With the Z cameras, the M mount would be a more versatile option. Use on other cameras.
