Here are a few more photos from Ammonite Falls, this time showing the actual falls. Although they are four distinct images, you will undoubtedly notice that the first two have a lot in common with each other, as do the last two. I found the colour and monochrome versions so equally compelling that I am reluctant to choose one over the other, so I am posting four photos instead of two. All were shot with the 16 f/3.5 Ai on the Fuji X-T2 and processed through LRCC and either SEP2 or CEP4. (By the way, check out those crazy ISO values. I don't think my D800E would produce such clean images with such nice colours at those settings.)
Two more shots of South Sister and Sparks Lake. Both were taken from the same spot, but at different times with different lenses. These 2 lenses, the 25-50/4 and the 75-150/3.5 E, have become my default travel kit. Fortunately both of mine are in good optical condition, though the wide-angle zoom will need the focusing helicoid relubed at some point and the tele has the usual zoom creep.
My first experience with zooms—not a Nikkor—left me swearing to neve use one again because of the washed-out, low contrast rendering. Eventually I bought a 35-105/3.5-4.5 AI-s in the late 80s for hiking. I still have it but don’t use it much. Build quality was excellent, but at 105mm only the center is acceptably sharp. At shorter focal lengths and in the macro mode it does surprisingly well.
Discussions a while back on this thread tempted me to try these 2 zooms. So when I saw them in camera shops, I gave in to temptation, and I’m glad I did.
First shot with 25-50/4 at f/8 on Df.
Second shot with 75-150/3.5 E at f/8 on Df.

Lestor and Samy - I have no secret to reveal. I was happily taking shots of the Opera House and the harbour bridge when one day Philippe called my work "banal". My french is not the best but I assumed it is was as unflattering in French as it was in English.

I think it's now time to tell the truth and break the myth : when I used the famous "banal" word I was talking about one of MY shot so I was critical with myself....

ha ha...I was wondering how long it would take to coax our french veteran out of the shadows.
Sorry Philippe but your link proves nothing - other than that you are very free with the description "banal". I've no doubt you've used it about yourself, and perhaps others, which confirms the likelihood that you used it in relation to one of my pics - which you certainly did. And we joked about it at the time.
Make no mistake, I'm truly grateful that you did, more grateful than you know. I would still be taking endless pics of the harbour bridge, or I would just have given up on photography, if it weren't for you. Not just your criticism but your example. Your street work inspired me so much. I remember so many astonishing pics from that period with the 28 f2.8 and the 50mm. And I like to think the influence has worked in the other direction to some small degree as well.
I have always valued your comments - and still do. I hope you will never flinch from giving me your honest opinion.Of course when you use the "b" word, as we now call it, it smarts but that's because I value your opinion so much.
Ken (Portland), superb arugula macro with the 105 f4. The 55 micro-nikkors are great, except the working distance. Really like the veins on the petals.
Laura, very nice view from your vantage point. Where was that again?
Scott (GA), cool scenes from the Rockies.
Roberto welcome back, and nice to see scenery from Croatia.
Glen, that first one of the falls is my favorite.
JohnK, great hiking shot in the snow at Big Bear.
Choung, really nice indeed of the little one with the 85 1.8!
Enjoying the cross continental battle over "banal". I knew Ben won't let it go

We finally get to meet Samy! He and Ken, along with Ken's wife Robin, visited Barbara and I at the market. Thanks guys for coming, it was great to meet you.

Please do and if you need a place to stay, our door is always open.
Thank so much Leighton! I´ll remember that and I say the same thing to you. Me and Anna have been talking a lot about doing a little road trip in the US when the kids have gotten a bit older :-)
As said, back yesterday and up this morning to see and sit with a friend who is having surgery today. Say some prayers.... it is serious stuff.
Was thinking that this focus peaking is 50 year old technology. Isn't it the same thing I saw while watching the "transporter beam" in action on the old Star Trek.
Well here is the traditional last shot of the road trip. The Vette has been to 31 states, it's not a garage queen. The trip photos soon to follow!
Been out on a little hammock camping trip for a few days, now I have a lot more shots to process, I´m not even done with the Indonesia session.... Trying to keep up the thread. So much to go through Well done everyone, love it!
Here´s a few more frpom Gili Air, Indonesia.
Happy snorklers...

Gasp Ben! So it's Philippe's fault I no longer get to enjoy those late night shots of the Opera House?! I liked those, reminded me of days when I would sneak out just to enjoy a city that waa still asleep. There’s that faint hint of danger from carrying a small fortune in photographic equipment that some bogan might try to relieve you of, but there's also that immense sense of solitude from being near one of the world's most recognisable landmarks when it's pretty deserted. Shucks, do you still try on those one wheeled skates in the park?
Talk about field curvature

My parents went home for a break so it's just Tracy and I as Raylan's care team
Thus begins the meal prep
Baking soda to make them crisp, nice and plump
Then a quick shake in a bag with s&p, garlic powder, onion powder and olive oil infused with more garlic and sauteed shells
