When fireflies are there you would see them right away, sometimes I see them out the window at night. Maybe another night they will come out in force for their Noct portraits.
Most nights on the trail they are abundant. But maybe the heavy rain (and I do mean a heavy rain) kept them at bay last night. Getting ready to head back out in about an hour. So fingers crossed tonight.

Failed attempt to shoot fireflies. Hard to shoot them when they don't show up
I went into the woods after dusk and after a thunderstorm last night, thinking it would be the right combination. Humidity was tropical. Could not see anything through my glasses fogging up. But did do some exposure testing and will give it another try tonight. Much lower humidity today.
Below shot with the Noct and D5. ISO 50, f/1.4. Did an in camera 10 image multiple exposure shot in Lighten mode @ 4 seconds per exposure.
Now I just need the bugs to cooperate. There were a few in this shot, but nothing like most nights. When I am not out to shoot of course.
Well I struck out again last night on the fireflies. But it is sort of like fly fishing. Catching a fish is just a bonus.
The trail is short and about 1.5 miles in to this point. Doing a hike back in the dark with frogs, owls and other night sounds is just so enjoyable.
They are usually all over this little hill with the ferns. Maybe I have missed their peak activity. Anyway, here is a shot from a little before dusk with the Noct. Some wide open bokeh

My family gave me a present of a supercar track day drive around Thruxton racetrack - the UK's fastest. I opted for the Mclaren 570s. I grabbed a few shots of the orange rocket whilst waiting for my instructor led turn.

With all this talk of fireflies I thought I'd see what I could find in my files, only one night I tried photographing them on a June 6th in NC.
This is more of an example of extreme processing rather than a pictorial nature shot, and required a few attempts to find a successful workflow. Probably all this trouble would have been avoided had I used a Noct.
I'll decide after I drive the Aston Martin V8 Vantage and Ferrari 458

The last car - a McMurtry Automotive Speirling - is something out of this world.
The static displays/pits at this event are amazing. Every conceivable marque available for you to get close to.
Rafael would have a field day.
