No, not my partner. I was not going to post this because I thought it pretentious to post a shot of myself. Taken with self-timer last weekend. Curtis encouraged me to post. On Monday I took a severe fall while working in the yard. Broke my glasses, bloodied both hands and my nose. Sprained left wrist and right knee, both quite swollen. Bit into both upper and lower lip. Definitely not a pretty picture. But life goes on.
Whenever things aren't going well, I just remind myself to be thankful that I'm not living — or dying — in Ukraine.
Ken, I think it is a great shot. Great detail and I love the setting.
Sorry to hear about your fall and hope you have a quick recovery. 100% agree about perspective compared to other situations in the world.

Wow Ken - that sounds like a terrible fall. I have always enjoyed anything you post, and I am sure using yourself as a model was more about practicalities than ego. Hope you heal quickly!

My son Angus found these decayed Tomatillos husks in the garden today. I had never grown Tomatillos before, and the nursery tag said they would get about three feet high. Well, all four of the plants grew into 7 foot high Christmas tree shaped plants in last years garden. The husks are beautiful - so I intend to shoot them some more. 5DS-R and the Nikkor-P.C 55mm f3.5 ai'd
Jay hits it above, you need an Xrite Color Checker. It’s a Card with color swatches and a grey scale. RAW can and does affect colors, the only catch is Xrite gets you “correct” which may or may not be pleasing to you.
Alternatively if you want to spend time you can use it to try an emulate say Classic Chrome on a Nikon body using process and HSL edits.

I have a Spyder X Pro to calibrate my screen but not sure how that helps create a color profile for my A7RIII. After Jim's suggestion, I Googled "color profile" for my Sony, but mainly got stuff for video S-log. Is the profile for the camera (in camera), or for Lightroom when reading the ARW? Maybe this weekend I can dig a bit deeper
Thanks
Doug

Ouch!! Sounds very nasty, Ken.
I know we all are wishing for a speedy recovery and better days ahead - for us and the Ukrainians

Of course, I should have known that. Hope you recover soon and tell Curtis to practice what he preaches.

Eight years ago! On the 9th of this month I fell and broke both legs. I was 67 and walking/hiking miles for photo opportunities. Magnificent Falls at 8000-9000 ft in Colorado or long dessert trails in Arizona. I had been blessed all my life with running, hiking and climbing stamina. Having to move about using your arms cost me my shoulders, life goes on.
For months after the fall, being wheel chair bound I learned really what it was like to get low when shooting. Me and my D700 went for miles and the Df was a joy. This Forum, the thread started by Curtis, the late Ray Steel, Reagan, Jay, Leighton, Samy, Laura and others saw me through my rehab either in person or through this thread. Lots can be said for the camaraderie here.
So all, at 67 I found out as you did Ken, life can change in an instant …. Forever!!!
Now if you might be in a position to put a guilt trip on Curtis, do it! I think he feels obliged to write long posts whereas a short “Hi, how’s it going everyone!” Would suffice. Tell him it’s all right even if only for a brief spell.
Get well and heal. I don’t know if rehab is in your future. If it is, it hurts, A LOT, but some things need to be sucked up for a better tomorrow. I’m walking without a cane and without a limp most of the time and not running anymore but riding a bike for 30 minutes a day (against medical advice I might add!) Doctors are great but human spirit is better that any medicine.
Get better so you will be able to enjoy doing what you like to do.
/Ken
