Anyone use a Z5 with FTZ and AI-S glass? I still have a few MFNG's and I can pick up this body for around $1K and be back to shooting MFNG glass. The Z5 is small and light, perfect for MFNG shooting. Do Z bodies give you focus peaking with MFNG? Is it hard to focus compared to say, Nikon Df?

Morning folks. There's been a lot of great images on here since my last visit. I've been busy getting rid of the last of the sheep flock, still have 8 ewes to go. Plus, we had to have the lane paved, THAT was fun...not.

I use a Z5 with FTZ and AI-S glass and it works great. I really like using the Z5 with MF glass. It has focus peaking, plus you can zoom in on your subject for critical focus. I've never used a DF, so I don't have anything to compare it to.

Highly subjective opinions from a somewhat picky hobbyist follow
In addition to what Scott said,
+ It is small and light but fits perfectly in the hand and is a joy to use.
+ It is easier to manually focus than Df. The focus highlights are better.
= shutter action is nicely damped and a good compromise to the Df's, which I like. For comparison, I don't like the Z50's sound at all. It's driven me to silent photography. Strangely, the Z5's silent photography does not feel as nice. Still completely silent, but the mechanics of the shutter button are different. It's spongy.
- you get everything in the Exif except the aperture values. This is a bit of a shame.
- which you should know, the first thing I discovered with Z5 is the banding in "artificial light + silent photography". Googling suggests it's a technical problem cheap mirrorless hasn't solved yet, unless you buy the Sony's A1. That and incompatibility of Flash with Silent photography mean another plus for F mount for me.
Haha yes you did George, congrats!! NikonUSA has been reminding me that I have something in the cart but somehow I did not quite take the dive yet. I went for the 43-86 AI instead
And I was just thinking earlier today that a 3.5cm Nikkor would be a perfectly normal length on the Zfc!

Novoflex - is that a straight S-Z adapter?
The Novoflex is a Leica M - Z. I have the Amedeo Nikon S to Leica M with the focus helicoid in between them. I was looking at the Rayqual Nikon S to Z adapter, but remembered I kept this one when I sold the Z6 last year.

These just jump off the page. Really nice!
Looks good, does it feel like a proper FM-sized body?
Initial impression on handling, yes. Absolutely. Just got it late this afternoon, so nothing beyond making sure everything is working. Hope to get some shooting time tomorrow at lunch.
I’ll also take some pictures with various lenses adapted (AIS, non-Ai, S and LTM) to give an idea of how they match the body. Will also put is beside my FM to give you an idea of size.
